NAGA CITY - - A parent of a 14 year-old minor has accused the Naga City's Public Safety Office (PSO) chief of manhandling his son and two other companions after the minors were brought for questioning at the City hall here, concerning a series of burglaries at the City hall offices .

Angel de la Vega Tagle, 54, a resident of Panganiban Drive here, stated in a radio-broadcast on Tuesday (Aug. 25) that his son Alberto Onolfo Tagle was manhandled by PSO Chairman Lito San Andres Del Rosario; meanwhile two other minors, James Francis B. Polgante, 12, and Junaid Sumalde, 10, were also reportedly hurt by PSO staff at a separate room while being questioned.

Angel Tagle had filed a complaint in a blotter-report at the Naga Police District Office, Precinct 1, concerning the said incident that occurred in the afternoon of Aug. 22 .

The Philippine Association of University Women (PAUW) - Naga City and Camarines Sur Chapter, will hold its Annual Regional Oratorical Contest on September 25, 2009, 1:00 p.m. at the Auditorium of the Naga College Foundation, Naga City.

The contest is an annual activity of the organization, participated in by female college students from invited schools, colleges and universities in the Bicol Region. The contest is also endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

LIGAO CITY, Aug. 26  - Two vital bridges were opened on Friday to traffic, linking this city to other towns and villages in the province, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 3rd engineering district said here Wednesday.

The newly constructed bridges are the Basag and Tobgon bridges in the villages of Basag and Batang in this city.

Albay 3rd District Representative Rino G. Lim inaugurated the Basag Bridge on Friday followed by another inaugural ceremony on September 4 for the Tobgon bridge.

NAGA CITY --- After the long wait, site blessing and resumption of construction work at the stalled Naga City Coliseum have been set at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28, at the Central Business District 2, fronting the monolithic SM City Naga.

Naga City Mayor Jesse M. Robredo said that "after all the technical consultations and following competitive search for the cheapest loan package and transparent public bidding, we are now finally resuming the construction of the Naga City Coliseum."

PILI, Camarines Sur - New Zealand's Terenzo Bozzone and Lisa Bentley of Canada confirmed they are among the world's speediest and toughest multisport athletes by handily clinching the maiden edition of Ironman 70.3 Philippines held at the renowned Camarines Sur Watersports Complex (CWC) here, Sunday, August 23.

SORSOGON CITY, Aug. 26  - The Sorsogon provincial office here of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has developed a technology that provides a simple method of producing oil from pilinut pulp.

It now serves as an alternative to the process introduced by the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (NIMBB) of the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, Laguna which uses enzymes in extraction and chemicals in refining pili pulp oil.

RIMINI, Italy, August 27, 2009-- The director of Harvard's AIDS Prevention Research Project is affirming that Benedict XVI's position was right in the debate on AIDS and condoms.

Edward Green stated this in an address at the 30th annual Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples in Rimini, sponsored by the lay movement, Communion and Liberation.

Green, an expert on AIDS prevention, said that "as a scientist he was amazed to see the closeness between what the Pope said last March in Cameroon and the results of the most recent scientific discoveries."

The pope, speaking Aug. 26 at the summer papal residence outside Rome, addressed his remarks to representatives of governments and international agencies who will attend a high-level United Nations summit on climate change in September.

BRUSSELS, Aug. 14 -- The European Union (EU) on Thursday stepped up sanctions against Myanmar by adding members of the judiciary responsible for the verdict of Aung San Suu Kyi to the existing list of officials subject to a travel ban and to an assets freeze.

Moreover, the blacklist is extended to cover the assets freeze to enterprises that are owned and controlled by these officials or by persons associated with them, said a statement of the council of the EU, which represents the 27 EU member states.

The first time I took note of "balaog" was in 2004. "Hiras nin Balaog" was supposedly the catchphrase when the Bikol Branch of Consuelo "Chito" Madrigal Foundation was launched.  So I asked, "Anong balaog?"  It's a shame that my Bikol vocabulary is limited to the everyday usage. No literary value, whatsoever. Although I do get creative with my Bikol when I am fuming mad.
