UNEP Journalism Studes Win in Division Secondary Press Conference

Twenty-one journalism students from the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP) were declared winners in the recently concluded Division Secondary Press Conference conducted on October 11 and 12 at the Rinconada Technical Vocational School at Sto. Domingo, Iriga City .

This recent admirable feat of UNEP was just another confirmation of how UNEPIANS really worked hard to live up to the legacy of academic excellence that the university never ceases to pursue.  Truly a home of global achievers, its moderator/ coach, Mrs. Virginia M. Aguila, along with the team of equally adept coaches; Mrs. Corazon Largo , Mrs. Asuncion S. Abaring, Mr. Byron Flora and Mrs. Midlyn Castillo untiringly shared their precious time in enhancing their student's writing prowess.

First place winners in the said competition under the Broadcasting -Filipino Category were Maegan Alexis Almasco, Jason Salvadora, Aldous Tyron Orillan, Jeni Roen  Villareal, Henessy Nikka Baylon, Beatrice Panga and Katherine Princess Vista.  Ma. Angelica M. Sergio also grabbed the first place in the Feature Writing (English) Category.

Ma. Jela M. Moran landed second under the Editorial Writing -English Category contest.  Also coming close at the helm were Aileen Joyce Ordonez, Kirstine Kayle Albar, Christopher Jean Manlapaz, Jonah Mirabel, Sharmaine Sy, Donalene Talento and Jessa Alfelor who all grabbed the second post under the Broadcasting (English) Category.

Rhuan Felix Alfelor and Jane Yvette De Leon, both garnered the 3rd place in the Photojournalism competition in English and Filipino category respectively.  Fourth place winners were Jeanette No (Feature-Filipino), Mona Ma. Kathlene Llorin (Editorial-Filipino) and Lovely Tampoco ( News Writing- Filipino ).

After summing up the results, the University of Northeastern Philippines capped the 1st runner up post, automatically qualifying the UNEP young journalism students to compete in the 29thn each Regional Secondary School Press Conference in Tabaco National High School on November 4-6, 2009.

The conduct of the Regional Secondary School Press Conference is in accordance with the provisions of Section 2 Republic Act No. 7079 in line with its thrust to promote responsible and free journalism. This also allows the Secondary Education Division thru the Bicol Association of Secondary School Paper Advisers (BASSPA) to conduct the competition in the regional level.  Participants to the conference are the top 5 Division level winners in each of the writing campus events which includes News Writing, Editorial Writing, Feature Writing, Sports English and Filipino Categories and one team composed of 7 members to compete in Broadcasting and Radio Scriptwriting in English and Filipino per division.
