LUPI, CAMARINES SUR (14 October) - OPPOSITION TO THE CURRENT CONSTRUCTION of the P1.9-Billion, Malaguico Dam Project in Barangay Malaguico in Sipocot, Camarines Sur has gathered momentum with local residents in the affected towns of Lupi and Sipocot now expressing deep concern over the displacement of more than 300 families along the riverbanks of the Pulantuna River in Lupi town, even as local government estimates claimed that affected families could reach 500 or an estimated 20,000 individuals.

IRIGA CITY (14 October)- Camarines Sur Fourth District Congressman Felix "Nancing" Alfelor Jr. confirmed during talks with newsmen here that the LAKAS-KAMPI ruling party had endorsed him as its official gubernatorial bet in Camarines Sur province.

Reportedly, Alfelor is also being eyed by Bikolano Presidentiable, Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) to be an adopted gubernatorial candidate for Camarines Sur.

Alfelor, however, said that he will decline any offer of an alliance with the NPC being the district chairman of the LAKAS-KAMPI in the Rinconada district of the province.

NAGA CITY-Camarines Sur province now has two state universities after the House bill  seeking to convert Camarines Sur State Agricultural College (CSSAC) in Pili town into Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) was signed into Republic Act 9717 by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Monday (October 12).

House bill 4360 was sponsored by Representatives Luis Villafuerte (Camarines Sur), Cynthia Villar (Las Piñas), Edcel Lagman (Albay), Exequiel Javier (Antique), Jesus Crispin Remulla (Cavite), and Bienvenido Abante Jr. (Manila). Its version in the Senate, Senate Bill 3192, was sponsored by Senators Manuel Roxas, Francis Escudero, and Edgardo Angara.

LEGAZPI CITY, Oct. 13  - The province of Albay would pilot test the climate change adaptation and mitigation subjects once the guidelines in its integration with elementary and secondary schools are finalized, the Center on Initiatives and Research on Climate Change Adaptation (CIRCA) here said on Tuesday.

CIRCA's executive director Manuel Rangaza said Education Secretary Jesli Lapus has recently directed the technical staff of the Department of Education (DepEd) to fine-tune the guidelines and implement them next school year.

PILI, CAMSUR (16 October)-The Camarines Sur Dragon Boat team added another feather in its cap by capturing the championship in three categories-International Freestyle, Corporate Club Crew Open and 200 m men open in the prestigious SAVA Sprints International V in Singapore last October 11 and 12.

The SAVA Sprints International V featured teams from Canada, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, England, Japan, United States, Malaysia and several teams from the Philippines.

LEGAZPI City, Oct. 11, 2009- "DwBS will continue to play its role in society through its relevant programs and in spreading the Good News," thus said Bishop Lucilo Quiambao during the Thanksgiving Mass marking the station's 18th anniversary and re-launch recently.

The region's second Catholic radio station has survived its most difficult challenges and will continue its mission as an effective medium in bringing the faith closer to the people, he said.

The occasion also marked its transfer to its new location at the heart of the city's business district.

LEGAZPI CITY, Oct. 14  - The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) in Bikol said some P127 million fund is ready to finance payments to farmers across the country whose agriculture produce have been destroyed in the wake of Ondoy and Pepeng.

The PCIC advisory said it is now working double time to fast track the indemnity payment to farmers whose farm produce were destroyed by the two typhoons that hit the country.

IRIGA CITY ---  Recognizing the importance of  Science and Technology (S&T) in nation building and the country's quest for progress, the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP) here celebrated on Oct. 6 and 7  the commemoration of this year's Science Week in partnership with its Association of Science Students, Educators and Trainers (ASSET) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

In her opening message during the event, UNEP President Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda cited the vital role of S& T in the development of the country.

With the theme "The Laity: Changing Self and Society with Jesus and Mary", the three-day event will be a combined assembly of the 16th National Biennial Convention of the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas and Laiko Regional Gathering in Luzon.

MANILA, Oct. 14, 2009-The number of people registering to vote is remarkable which means there's high interests in next year's elections, said a Catholic Church-backed poll watchdog.

The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) chairperson Henrietta De Villa said they are optimistic they will be able to get the three million target registrants by Oct. 31.

As of Tuesday, the PPCRV along with the Commission on Elections and other organizations have already succeeded in registering 2.8 million people nationwide.

A priest of the Archdiocese of Caceres was recently honored by the Educational Research and Development Foundation Assistance (ERDA) for being its partner in the "unrelenting service to the Filipino youth."

Fr. Felix Barela, the School Chaplain of the Camarines Sur Polytechnic College-Naga Campus, the Camarines Sur High School, and the Naga College Foundation, was one of only two awardees of ERDA which named Bishop Artemio Rillera, SVD, DD as its other honored partner. They were awarded last 17 September at the Occupational Safety and Health Center, Quezon City.

VATICAN, Oct. 11, 2009-- Today, Pope Benedict XVI canonized five new saints in St. Peter's Basilica, including Fr. Damian of Molokai. During his homily, the Holy Father noted that all of the saints followed the invitation of Christ: "Come, follow me!"

Speaking to the faithful packed in St. Peter's Basilica this morning, the Pope described the invitation of Christ saying that he "invites his disciples to the total gift of their lives, without calculation and human self-interest, with a wholehearted faith in God."

Worldwide there were an estimated 28000 infections and more than 1000 kills in August '09 already, so the WHO. This had its effect on the entire world.
