MILAGROS, Masbate Nov 5. 2010- An NPA rebel lay dead and one military officer was wounded in  a fresh fighting in Masbate island, a military official said here today.

LtCol Anthony Purugganan, the Commander of the 9th Infantry Battalion which has jurisdiction over the whole Masbate Province, said that he sent a platoon of soldiers led by 1st Lieutenant Michael Morales supported by 10-man police contingent led by Police Inspector Jan King Calipay after receiving a 'hot' information regarding the presence of 20 heavily-armed bandits in Sitio Hanlas, Pina village in the town of San Jacinto.

LEGAZPI CITY, Nov. 6, 2010 - Sorsogon province's Mt. Bulusan spewed a grayish ash column 600 meters high Saturday, prompting the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) to raise Alert Level 1.

Phivolcs reported observing explosions as thick ash clouds hovered over the volcano's summit.

Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) reported an unaudited net income of P327.43 million for the first nine months of 2010, 11.75% higher than the P293 million as of the same period last year. Bank officials said that higher revenues from investments and interest income loans as well as trading gains were the main factors behind the increase in the first three quarters for the commercial bank owned by the World War II veterans.
