Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Chair on Youth Apostolate, Bishop Joel Baylon, has joined his voice to those which call for the abolition of the Sanggunian Kabataan (SK). The massive instances of vote-buying and irregularities prior and during the just concluded Barangay and SK polls had convinced the Legazpi prelate that the SK, "lofty" though its goals may be, has proven to be "a corrupting influence on the youth."

Introduction

In my first pastoral letter, I stated the reason why the Church has the right and duty to speak about socio-political issues. In the second, I set forth the guiding moral principles that have helped us in our discernment of the issues contained in the RH bill. In the third, I dealt with the special concerns on the bill and the Church response to these issues. Now, what do we do next?

Justices are public servants whose work-especially if plagiarized from foreign authors-should never escape scrutiny no matter their claim to "dignity of the court" or "independence of the judiciary." We have a greater right to free speech and against global humiliation.
