UNEP Undergoes Basic Safety Seminar With Consunji

"Any personnel involved in a precarious occupation should by all means equip himself with the basic training and safety, in line with the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS). This is also to promote and ensure safe and healthy workplace in any industry."

The statement made by UNEP President Atty. Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda is in line with the university's desire to equip students and faculty members of UNEP Engineering and Technical Department with the fundamental know-how crucial to their safety while in the workplace.

Taking the action to realize this endeavor, the D.M. Consunji Technical Training Center (DMCTTC) has offered its expertise to conduct a 5-day seminar workshop scheduled on November 22-26, 2010 with UNEP as the confab venue.

The course is designed to increase the number of competent OSH personnel who are competent to carry out safety measures in adherence to the OSHS and under Department Order No 16-Rule 1030  of the Labor Code of the Philippines .  It requires that any personnel involved in OSH shall take the required safety training. It is also a requirement for individual who desires to practice OSH in the country.

Dubbed as "Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) for Construction", the seminar will focus on identifying and articulating relevant OSH legislations.  This will also serve as the management's blueprint in complying with the Philippine Occupational Safety and Health Standards.

Moraleda said that it is just appropriate for the management to identify and evaluate occupational hazards so that they can recommend the appropriate approach on how to prevent and control it.

"The reason why we are going to conduct this seminar is to ensure the safety of our personnel and promote a safe working environment for everybody.  We value life, we value safety and it is one of our topmost concerns in this university."

Some of the topics that are going to be discussed by the speakers are lectures on Tools and Equipment Safety; Handling, Storage, Use and Disposal of hazardous materials, environmental safety; Excavation; Demolition and Explosives; Job hazard Analysis; Personal Protective Equipment and Effective Safety Communication among others.

D.M. Consunji Technical Training Center (DMCTTC), having dedicated itself  in sharing its expertise for the past four years , is happy to share its knowledge not just in the provision of training and enhancement of technical skills, but also in giving lectures on project development and implementation of safety rules to its clienteles.
