UNEP Alumnus is Bondoc Peninsula’s Best Teacher

"Teachers teach more by what they are than by what they say, " so goes a line that stanchly describe how Allan Abasolo, a 32-year old Elementary teacher shared his passion for learning that has inspired a lot of little minds to pursue their education.

Abasolo is a native of Camflora in San Andres in Bondoc Peninsula but has spent his college years at the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP) in Iriga City.  He is a scholar who has sweat his way to realize his dreams.  He served as a gardener and a helper in the university until he successfully graduated with the degree in Bachelor of Arts in English in 2007.

After graduation, Abasolo later earned units in education and used this as a tool to arm himself with enough knowledge to pursue his passion in imparting his learning to a lot of unfortunate kids in the mountain.  This was after his stint as a High School teacher in Camflora.  In 2008, he lovingly embraced his job as elementary teacher in Yugno Elementary School in spite of the fact that he has to transcend the rugged terrain before finally reaching his destination.

Yugno Elementary School is in the border of San Andres, San Narciso, Mulanay and San Francisco towns, considered as the most inaccessible political territory of San Andres.

Abasolo's strategy of teaching did not only amaze the community's parents but also encouraged almost all of his 109 pupils to enjoy learning and eventually improved their grades and academic performance.

UNEP Executive Vice President Miss Deli Alfelor-Tibi said that Abasolo's genuine concern for others is already visible even when he was still a student at UNEP.  "It never became a hindrance for Allan to finish his course in spite of their family's financial concerns.  His determination had rightfully placed him where he should belong."

UNEP President Atty. Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda is also equally pleased with the accomplishment of their former student.  "The recognition being given to Abasolo is one thing that the university is very much proud of. Abasolo is a living example of how UNEP have honed our students into becoming a true servant.  He exemplifies and embodies how a true UNEPian should be."

In acknowledgment of his great feat and the honor that he has brought UNEP, Abasolo will be awarded as one of UNEP's outstanding Alumni during the university's foundation anniversary next year.  Abasolo's leap is also the university's testimony that indeed UNEP is the Home of Global Achievers."
