LAGONOY, CAMARINES SUR - FOUR PUBLIC School classrooms at the Lagonoy Central School at the town's poblacion area were razed by a fire of unknown origin on Sunday (July 11) with initial assessed damages reaching about P 15 million, including textbooks, tables, desks, and other classroom fixtures consumed by the blaze.

There was no immediate confirmation from the Bureau of Fire Protection and the local fire department on the cause of the blaze that lasted several hours due to the absence of sufficient fire trucks to combat the blaze.

Education has been one of the major enterprise of a democratic society, and preparing competent teachers in whose hands the education of the young children is entrusted cannot be overemphasized.

The seminar workshop was intended primarily for Baao District teachers and school heads to improve their competency and to update themselves on the current trends, new techniques and strategies in the teaching-learning process, and to maintain a high standard of personal and professional conduct.

Naga City (15 July) -- The Commission on Elections has announced the passage of a resolution setting August 6-15 as voters' registration for the Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

Comelec  Resolution no. 9004 said that any Filipino citizen, at least 15 but  below 18 years old and  a resident of the Barangay where he/she intend to vote for at least six (6) months could register for the election.

Sorsogon City (15 July) -- Shellfish Bulletin No. 15 issued by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) dated July 8, 2010 strongly advices the public that all types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or "alamang" gathered from Sorsogon Bay are now again unsafe for human consumption.

BFAR bulletin says that based on the latest laboratory results of the red tide monitoring activities conducted by the agency and Office of the City and Provincial Agriculturist, shellfish samples collected from Sorsogon Bay are now positive anew of the red tide toxin.

LEGAZPI CITY, July 15  - The death toll rose to four while 23 of the 43 people reported missing were recovered as typhoon Basyang hovered and hit on Wednesday the provinces of Catanduanes and Camarines Norte, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Bikol said Thursday.

OCD report said Basyang left four persons dead in Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur and the causes of death were either drowning or hypothermia.

The report said search and rescue operations are still going on for the 20 people reported missing in the coastal villages of Camarines Norte and Catanduanes.

MANILA, July 8, 2010-The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has created its first ever video game for kids with "catechetical value."

The CBCP's Episcopal Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education (ECCCE) will launch it during a press conference on Friday, July 9.

CBCP has developed the first game called "Paolo's Journey" within the Commission itself and is available for PC and Mac users.

"Paolo's Journey is a 3D video game based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

MANILA, July 9, 2010- With the anti-child pornography law taking effect next week, the Catholic hierarchy is hoping for strengthened fight against the "alarming" problem.

Msgr. Pedro Quitorio, media office director of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, said the church has been building momentum with its anti-child porn campaign.

The agency in 2007 tied-up with the Optical Media Board (OMB) to help the government stamp out child pornography through the instrumentality of an "ad hoc committee" headed by Ambassador Henrietta de Villa.

MANILA, July 7, 2010-Government officials and members of the judiciary have been urged to strive for professionalism and integrity of their services.

Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales made the call when officiating at the "Red Mass" attended by President Benigno Aquino III and ranking leaders of the judiciary at the Manila Cathedral Tuesday.

Rosales said judges, magistrates, and all public officials are supposed to uphold laws that are just and ensure that justice prevail in the society.

Legazpi City (9 July) -- All government workers are starting to receive their second tranche of salary increase under the Salary Standardization Law III effective June 24, 2010 pursuant to EO No.900 of the previous administration.

Assistant Regional Director Angelita Cells of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) in Bikol has assured government workers in Region V that the corresponding cash requirement for their salary increase will be released as part of the cash program for the second half of the year.

Manila (9 July) -- The National Food Authority (NFA) in Bikol effected the transformation of all Tindahan Natin Outlets (TNOs) and Tindahan sa Parokya Outlets (TSPs) into Bigasan Sa Barangay Outlets (BBOs) and Bigasan Sa Parokya Outlets (BPOs) to distribute NFA rice at the regular price of P25.00 per kilogram effective June 24, 2010.

This was in compliance with the instruction of erstwhile Administrator Jessup P. Navarro received last June 23.

NAGA CITY---THE REMAINS of a Korean national still lies at the JL Espiritu Funeral Homes at the poblacion of Pasacao, Cam. Sur after the foreigner had committed suicide at a local beach resort in the said town last July 1, the Cam. Sur Police office here reported last July 6.

The Local police bared that according to the Koji's Beach Resort care-taker, Francia Magsino Barrameda, 28, the Korean indentified as Seung Hwan Kim, 66, was found with a nylon cord tied around his neck and hanging inside his rented cottage at the said resort in Barangay Caranan in this town.

PASACAO, CAM. SUR (7 July) - THE LOCAL police in this coastal town is still probing for the possible motive behind the bomb explosion that occurred inside the Meinhard Generics Pharmacy at the Oliver Lee Building at Barangay Sta. Rosa Del Sur near the town's port area early this week.

The drug store which is reportedly owned by Josephine Ranido Salazar sustained substantial damage during the blast, but firm's owner had not yet declared to the police the worth of damages on the establishment.

LEGAZPI CITY, July 5 - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office in Bicol has announced the creation of an alliance with the local media here dubbed as DAMA-Bicol.

Alvin M. Villamor, DOLE-Bicol Regional Director said the DOLE & Media Alliance for Bicol codenamed "DAMA Bicol" is a pet project of the regional office that aims to improve the labor relations services of the office by forging a partnership with the tri-media in gathering labor complaints.

DAET, Camarines Norte, July 9 - Water shortage in some parts of the province, particularly those covered by Camarines Norte Water District (CNWD), is expected to get worse in the coming months starting July until November this year when surface water source reaches a critical low level caused by the long dry spell during the summer months, bared an official of the water utility office here.
