COMELEC sets SK Elections' Registration

Naga City (15 July) -- The Commission on Elections has announced the passage of a resolution setting August 6-15 as voters' registration for the Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

Comelec  Resolution no. 9004 said that any Filipino citizen, at least 15 but  below 18 years old and  a resident of the Barangay where he/she intend to vote for at least six (6) months could register for the election.

The resolution stresses the value of having an "assembly of youth" in every barangay.  According to the Local Government Code of 1991, "its primary objective is to enhance the social, political, economic, cultural, intellectual, moral, spiritual and physical development of the youth of the country."

Based on the Comelec resolution, voters' registration is from 8 AM until 7 PM at the Office of the Election Officer in the city or municipality where the applicant resides. The following documents should be presented when they register: a) Birth Certificate, b) Baptismal Certificate, c) school records or any other document that will establish his identity and other qualifications.
