VATICAN CITY, APRIL 24, 2010 (Zenit.org).- In his Easter message, Benedict XVI contrasted the joy of the Resurrection with the sufferings and "painful situations" that continue to afflict mankind, such as natural disasters, poverty, illness and war.

Before imparting his blessing "urbi et orbi" (to the city of Rome and the world), the Pope noted that at Easter "the hosts of angels, saints and blessed souls join with one voice in our exultant song. [...] But alas, it is not so on earth!"

Evangelization has always been the mission of the Church. The call to evangelize first given to us by Christ requires that we proclaim the word of God using every means of communication including radio, television and internet.

In view of this urgent task, the Caceres Commission on Communications (CCCom) is resuming its TV Program, SIMBANWAAN Season 3.

Quezon City, April 18, 2011―On Good Friday, the Dominican Province of the Philippines (DPP) will continue its tradition of preaching during the Holy Week with the longest-running Lenten program on Philippine TV— the Siete Palabras (Seven Last Words), with the theme, “Ang Pasyong Mahal sa Buhay ni Juan.”

According to the DPP-Provincial Media Board chairman Fr. Jeff Aytona, OP, the Siete Palabras 2011 will show “the traditional Filipino ways of commemorating the passion of Christ on the Cross.”

Holy Week is a time for conversion and not vacation, a bishop said yesterday.

Batanes Bishop Camillo Gregorio said on Church-run Radio Veritas 846 it was the habit of some Catholics to observe Holy Week by going on vacation somewhere, such as the beach in Boracay.

VIRAC, Catanduanes, March 30, 2011―The Commission on Family Life Education and Youth apostolate (CFLEYA) of Virac diocese recently led a multi-sectoral rally calling for “respect for the dignity of life which begins from conception.”

Rallyists condemned the proposed measure, saying what is needed now is a law “on family housing, family wage, and family guidance counseling,” and not a legislation like the reproductive health bill.

MANILA, March 23, 2011— Outgoing Papal nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams bid farewell to the Filipino prelates yesterday preparatory to assuming his new position in Greece.

Adams said he enjoyed his almost three-year stay in the Philippines and urged the Filipino bishops to continue the church’s mission of “truth, kindness and charity.”

ROME, March 17, 2011 (CNA).- The Superior General of the Society of Jesus, Spanish priest Fr. Adolfo Nicolas, recently sent a letter to Jesuits worldwide, announcing a revision to the order's General Curia.

In his letter, Fr. Nicolas explained that the decision was made after he received “a series of guidelines” from delegates who attended the Jesuits’ 35th General Congregation, held in 2008.

MANILA, March 13, 2011— Plans to revive the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant must be abandoned fully, a Catholic bishop appealed after a nuclear emergency was declared in earthquake-hit Japan.

Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez said Japan’s situation should serve as an ample warning to the Philippine government to totally give up plans to resurrect BNPP.

“What is happening in Japan confirmed our fear even before up to now that’s why we oppose plans to revive the nuclear plant in Bataan,” Iñiguez said.

VATICAN, March 12, 2011 (CNA/EWTN News).- Pope Benedict XVI expressed his solidarity with the dead and their families in Japan, as the Japanese Church makes quick plans for relief efforts following a deadly earthquake and tsunami.

On March 11, an 8.9-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Japan and a lengthy series of aftershocks sent enormous waves up to two miles inland in some low-lying areas, uprooting houses and obliterating entire towns.
