Catanduanes Holds ‘walk for life’ Against RH Bill

VIRAC, Catanduanes, March 30, 2011―The Commission on Family Life Education and Youth apostolate (CFLEYA) of Virac diocese recently led a multi-sectoral rally calling for “respect for the dignity of life which begins from conception.”

Rallyists condemned the proposed measure, saying what is needed now is a law “on family housing, family wage, and family guidance counseling,” and not a legislation like the reproductive health bill.

The group slammed the proposed sex education in schools, saying more classrooms and teachers should be provided and not the implementation of sex education in schools.

“To offer all information about sex to children and youth in the school, more than what they can actually need and can handle, [can result] in promiscuity, contraceptive use, sexually transmitted disease and pregnancy, along with whatever physical and psychological traumas that may ensue,” the protesters said.

“It is in sex education [that] children are introduced at a very early age to many anti-life and anti-family concepts,” they added.

The group also stressed the need to strengthen the values of Filipino family.

“We need responsible and conscientious citizens advocating respect for family and life,” they said.

The rally dubbed as “walk for life” was participated by government employees, religious and civic organizations, youth groups, students, officers from the Philippine National Police, and the lawyers from the RTC.

The activity culminated at the Virac plaza with the lighting of Unity-torch.

Ecumenical prayers were offered by the heads of different provincial government offices and pastors of different churches. (CBCPNews)
