DAET, Camarines Norte, August 5, 2013—Being a grandparent is a vocation too.

The important role that grandparents fulfill in the transmission of the Catholic faith to the younger generation was highlighted in the launching of the Catholic Grandparents Association of the Philippines in Daet recently.

Around 156 delegates from eight dioceses participated in the launching of the Association at Bagasbas Lighthouse Hotel, Daet, Camarines Norte from July 25-27...

NAGA City, Nov. 16, 2012―Archbishop Rolando Joven Tria Tirona, OCD was installed November 14 as fourth archbishop of the Archdiocese of Caceres in a two hour solemn liturgical rites.

Tirona succeeded Dominican Archbishop Leonardo Zamora Legaspi who served as metropolitan bishop of Caceres for 28 years.

The new prelate called on the clergy, religious and laymen and women to further help in making the local church responsive to the needs of the times.

He also expressed his thanks to the “best clergy” he ever knew, the clergy from the Prelature of Infanta, drawing loud applause from the congregation.

SORSOGON City, Feb. 13, 2012—Thousands of delegates from various parishes of the Diocese of Sorsogon celebrated the 3rd Diocesan Basic Ecclesial Communities day last February 4, 2012 at Pilar, Sorsogon.

With the theme, “Saradit na Kristianong Komunidad padagos sa paglakbay na nagsisimbag sa pangapodan na magin mga tunay na Kristianong Disipulo,” (Basic Ecclesial Communities continue to journey in response to the call to become authentic Christian disciples) the celebration began with a motorcade led by Bishop Arturo Bastes, SVD, and 28 parish priests in the diocese.

LEGAZPI City, Nov. 25, 2011―President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III said it is the responsibility of local government units to protect their fishing grounds from commercial fishers.

This was his reaction to a letter sent by Bicol-based bishops led by the Metropolitan of Caceres Archbishop Leonardo Z. Legazpi, OP, DD two months ago calling on the Aquino administration to ban the rampant commercial fishing in municipal waters.

"Once, every year, we gather together to remember those who have walked with us. How do we remember them?", asked Most Rev. Leonardo Legaspi, O.P. D.D., Archbishop of Caceres, at the concelebrated mass for the departed Priests and Bishops of the Archdiocese. Held on the Solemnity of the All Saints' Day, November 1, 2011 (Tuesday), both the religious and the lay faithful gathered at the Resurrection Garden Chapel of the Holy Rosary Major Seminary at nine o'clock in the morning.

Francis Tordilla on the 15th Archdiocesan Celebration of the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Held on the first of July, 2011 (Friday) at the Immaculate Conception Parish (Concepcion Pequeña, Naga City), the said event with the theme, "The Challenge of the Heart of Jesus: Stand for Life!", was successfully organized by the Apostleship of Prayer (AP).

Held at the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral last April 21, 2011 at seven o'clock in the morning, what is central to this solemn yet festive occasion is the renewal of vows by the clergy, in the presence of their Bishop and the faithful.

Rallyists condemned the proposed measure, saying what is needed now is a law “on family housing, family wage, and family guidance counseling,” and not a legislation like the reproductive health bill.

Sorsogon Bishop Arturo Bastes made the challenge to the lawmakers for the sake of the OFWs.

“It is the best time for them that all those congressmen must give their pork barrel to protect our OFW,” Bastes said.

He said no less than the Vatican has issued a statement that confessions still have to be done in person.

The declaration also calls on families to unite and ensure that the family remains as an “autonomous social institution.”

In its statement “Stand up for Life,” lay leaders and their members affirmed their commitment to the Church’s position regarding reproductive health.

CBCP’s Commission on Youth Chair Joel Baylon made the admission as the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines formally launched today 2011 as the “Year of the Youth”.

“Many of them feel abandoned by the institutions that are supposed to take care of them – the Church included, we must humbly admit,” said Baylon.

In a statement sent to CBCP Media Office today, the 74-year old prelate said apparent attempts to destroy and discredit the church have been made by some sectors and individuals.

“The accused priest and the Archdiocese of Caceres vehemently deny the said accusation,” Archbishop Legaspi said in his statement.
