PAGASA: LPA now tropical depression 'Falcon'
To become tropical cyclone in 12 to 24 hours
Naga City (July 21, 2011 1:40 P.M.) - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has upgraded the Tropical Disturbance 99W east of the Visayas to Tropical Depression 'Falcon' as it moves northwestward in the general direction of extreme Northern Luzon.
As of 12 noon today, Falcon was located 685 kilometers East of Borongan, Eastern Samar or 950 kilometers East Southeast of Naga City at coordinates 1.9º North Latitude 131.8º East Longitude.
Because of the large size of this weather system, it is taking longer to develop. Nevertheless, it is expected to become a tropical cyclone in 12 to 24 hours because of extremely favorable atmospheric conditions as it moves over the warm Philippine Sea.
Residents and visitors along Eastern Visayas, Bicol and the rest of Luzon Luzon are advised to closely monitor the progress of Falcon.
Falcon's developing western rainbands are now affecting and spreading across the eastern coast of Samar, Dinagat & Siargao Islands. Tropical Depression conditions with moderate to strong winds (30-61 kilometers per hour) are expected in these areas.
