Tropical Storm Egay to skirt North tip of Cagayan

Naga City (June 19, 2011 4:30 A.M.) - As of midnight (12:00 A.M. June 19), Tropical Storm Egay continues on its northwesterly track over the warm Philippine Sea as enhanced Southwest Monsoon brings rains along the western sections of Luzon and Visayas. Early tonight, the eye of the storm is expected to skirt the northern tip of Cagayan, 15 kilometers or less off the coast of Escaparda Point.

This is Egay's closest approach to mainland Luzon before it passess over the Calayan island early morning on Monday.

At midnight, the center of the storm was located 290 km (157 nm) ESE of Casiguran, Aurora at coordinates 15.5º North Latitude 124.7º East Longitude.

Egay continues to intensify and may pack a center wind up to 85 kilometers per hour by the time it reaches the coasts of Cagayan. This morning it shall be in the vicinity of Isabela-Cagayan, about 120 km East of Palanan Bay, Isabela with projected center wind up to 75 kilometers per hour.

Egay's rainbands now affects Aurora, Quezon, Quirino, Bicol Region, Polillo Islands, and portions of Southern Tagalog Provinces. Moderate to strong winds (30-61 kph) with low to medium rainfall (5 up to 150 mm in 24 hours) are expected along these bands.
