ARLINGTON, Texas - Like to see how Dirk Nowitzki would put to use his patented one-legged jumpshot and follow-through high kick to pitch a baseball? Click here.

Still the talk and toast of the town, superstar forward of the 2011 NBA champions Dallas Mavericks was given the honor to pitch the ceremonial first ball on Friday to set the tone for a 3-game series between the Texas Rangers and the New York Mets at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.

Before Nowitzki pulled out a baseball from his pocket to start the ceremony, he carried a basketball entering the field. Before getting to the mound he showed the wildly cheering crowd his patented jump-shot that sent the ball on high arch towards the home plate.

Nowitzki then walked to the back of the mound and kicked up some dirt before throwing a fastball with a follow-through high right leg kick. The ball ended up too high and Rangers catcher Michael Young had to give all of his leaping ability to reach it.

The Most Valuable Player of the NBA finals then approached Young to shake hands then waved at the happy crowd as headed to the exit. (From philstar.com)
