  • CAMP OLA, LEGAZPI CITY (11 December) - AFTER TWO GUNMEN attempted to assassinate a provincial board-member in Kalipay, Masbate City last December 7, the PNP regional office in Bikol and COMELEC have expressed concern that the shooting incident  may again be a prelude to the traditional culture of violence during elections in this island-province.

  • SORSOGON CITY, Aug. 26  - The Sorsogon provincial office here of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has developed a technology that provides a simple method of producing oil from pilinut pulp.

    It now serves as an alternative to the process introduced by the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (NIMBB) of the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, Laguna which uses enzymes in extraction and chemicals in refining pili pulp oil.

  • Pili, Camarines Sur (22 January) -- The Civil Service Commission (CSC) field office here announces the 2010 schedule of Career Service Examination (CSE) Paper and Pencil Test (PPT) on both professional and sub-professional levels set on April 25 and October 17, this year.

    Director Lida C. Ayon of CSC Camarines Sur has announced that her office is now accepting applications on the first-come-first served basis.

    Ayon added that applicants must be 18 years old and above and submit the following requirements for the said examinations:

  • CAMP OLA, LEGAZPI CITY (11 December) - SEVEN SUSPECTED MEMBERS of the communist New People's Army's "Celso  Minguez Command" operating in Sorsogon province have been charged with Multiple Murder and Frustrated Murder.

    Reportedly identified by the PNP Intelligence through witnesses, the suspects were charged together with some 14 other unidentified members of the communist movement in Sorsogon.

  • NAGA CITY (26 October) -Liberal Party (LP) presidentiable Sen. Noynoy Aquino recently made consultations with multi-sectoral groups and old Liberal party members in Naga City, Calabanga, San Fernando towns in Camarines Sur and Albay province during the weekend.

  • MANILA, May 6, 2010-The National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) said it would conduct an independent count of the votes for the May 10 automated polls.

  • IRIGA CITY (14 October)- Camarines Sur Fourth District Congressman Felix "Nancing" Alfelor Jr. confirmed during talks with newsmen here that the LAKAS-KAMPI ruling party had endorsed him as its official gubernatorial bet in Camarines Sur province.

    Reportedly, Alfelor is also being eyed by Bikolano Presidentiable, Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) to be an adopted gubernatorial candidate for Camarines Sur.

    Alfelor, however, said that he will decline any offer of an alliance with the NPC being the district chairman of the LAKAS-KAMPI in the Rinconada district of the province.

  • Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) recently opened 10 new branches beefing up its network to 60 branches nationwide. Last January 18th, PVB simultaneously opened 10 new branches all over the country. These are located in Pasay City, Malolos, Bulacan; Santiago City, Isabela; Olongapo; Lipa, Batangas; San Pablo, Laguna; Kalibo, Aklan; Tagbilaran, Bohol; Pagadian, Zamboanga de Sur; and Koronadal.  Late last 2009, the Bank opened 5 new branches in Luzon as part of its branch expansion and rationalization plan.

  • LEGAZPI CITY-Liberal Party standard bearer Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino acknowledged on Tuesday the surge in the latest Pulse Asia survey of his cousin and rival, former Defense Secretary Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro.

    "My younger cousin's increase in figures in the latest survey, I admit, is dramatic," Aquino said.

    The latest Pulse Asia survey conducted the first week of December showed Teodoro up by three points from his previous survey rating.

    "But the increase is only in terms of small numbers."
