MANILA, April 23  -- Former UN peacekeepers who were newly deployed to augment Special Task Force Masbate, arrested four suspected members of a partisan armed group (PAG) in Bgy. Naocondiot, Placer, Masbate on Thursday afternoon, a military officer said.

Major Harold M. Cabunoc, Division Spokesperson said that the former UN peacekeepers are among the combined elements of the STF Masbate which was sent to check the reported presence of gun-toting gunmen in the village.

LEGAZPI CITY, April 21  - "Mayon Volcano is still unsafe for mountaineers and human activity within the six-kilometer permanent danger zone remain is also prohibited," Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) resident volcanologist Ed Laguerta told the public.

He warned mountaineers and tour guides that climbing Mayon in not safe until now because the volcano is still emitting gases and lava. "Although the lava and gases emission are minimal still it is dangerous to human," he said.

LEGAZPI CITY, April 22  -- Authorities filed Thursday murder charges against a Masbate policeman, the principal suspect in the killing of a political supporter of a mayoral candidate in Placer town in Masbate, a Philippine National Police (PNP) official said.

Police Senior Supt. Eddie Benigay, PNP Masbate provincial director, said the PNP had filed today with the provincial prosecutors office murder case against Police Officer (PO1) Gilbert Patingan, the security escort of incumbent Placer town Mayor Joshur Judd Seachon Lanete.

With the regular summer vacation soon drawing to a halt, the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP), is now inviting enrollees who intend to receive a teaching certificate after completing their review for the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) this vacation.

In line with this, the university is now in full swing accepting interested enrollees who wish to take part in the LET review being spearheaded by UNEP's College of Education.  UNEP is offering 18 units of learning package to non-education graduate.
