RDCC to Ensure Power Supply on Election Day
LEGAZPI CITY, April 14, -- The Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) assured the public that there will be an adequate power supply on the scheduled national and local elections on May 10, this year.
Office of Civil Defense (OCD) director Raffy Alejandro said the various disaster council will be ready with functional electric generator sets for deployment as backup power supply in case power brownouts on the election day.
RDCC planned out measures to assure the public of adequate power supply on May 10 elections during a council meeting Tuesday. This is in line with Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales directive.
Alejandro said that the initiative form part of the NDCC's operation plan to guarantee a credible and efficient electoral process on Election Day.
He said DCC's through the OCD will conduct an inventory of all functional electric generators not only those belonging to government agencies but also those owned by the private firms and individual citizens to be used in their respective localities to ensure sufficiency in power supply during the elections.
The OCD has created a special task force to implement the operation plan, this will cover the planning, preparation, management and implementation to ensure the proper mobilization of back-up power supply.
The task force will see to it that there will be available back-up power generators to ensure that the polling places are well-lighted and visible, Alejandro said.
The military, on the other hand, was directed to assist in this mobilization effort through the proper communication, movement, utilization, maintenance and protection of deployed.
Navy Commodore Joel E. Babas said that the Armed Forces of the Philippine (AFP) will ensure the task of mobilizing the back-up generators in the precincts in the region as directed by Secretary Gonzales. (PNA)
