Top Wakeboard Riders Sign Up for 2nd Asian Wake Park Championship

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

PILI, Camarines Sur (31 October)- The Camarines Sur Watersports Complex (CWC), conceded the "best cable wake park in the world", will be the focus of international extreme sports circles as Governor LRay Villafuerte in partnership with the Asian Wakeboard Association bring to the province the second edition of the Asian Wake Park Championship on October 30 to November 1, 2009.

The three-day 2nd Asian Wake Park Championship is the third and final stop of the Asian Wake Park Tour (AWPT), the final leg also staged here on its maiden run last year, and will be the fourth international wake park event that will further boost CamSur's stature as the most visited tourism site in the country and a world-class extreme sports center.

Asia's six top-rated Mens Wakeboard Open riders - Thanatorn Rattanachai (Tha), Tatsanai KuakoonRat (Tha), Alex Bennet-Leat (Sing), Daniel Grant (Tha), Mark Griffin (Sing) and David Ngiam (Sing) - as well as top-seeded Womens Wakeboard Open Apassom Akaraisayaporn of Thailand have already confirmed attendance.

Home grown riders led by Edwin Tipones and Ricky Otilla who finished 4th last year and ranked Mens Open 12th and 17th in Asia, respectively, are expected to carry the Philippine torch and give the elite wakeboard riders of other countries a run for the money,  including Dan Saraza who finished 8th in last year's Asian tilt; Luigi Villafuerte and Angelo Linao, 2nd and 3rd in Groms; Julio Villafuerte and Xavier Odiamar, 2nd and 4th in Junio Men; Dennis Divinagracia and Robbie Britanico, 4th and 7th in Wakeskate; Miguel Villafuerte, 2nd in Open Mens.

Aside from the thrill and excitement of participating in this three-day skirmish of arduous competition of balance, strength, grace and style, the activity will feature for the enjoyment of competitors and spectators alike a variety of entertainment dubbed "Wicked Weekend" including cool music from famous DJs, parties of various themes, skimpiest attire and body painting contest, a Gore House workshop and trick-or-treat for kids, and a Halloween costume bash.

The Asian Championship and entertainment galore will be in keeping with the world-class standards the province has set for itself and the CWC to sustain and further enhance the headway Camarines Sur has gained as an eco-tourism destination and an extreme sports hub.

Notable wakeboard personalities expected include World Wakeboard Association (WWA) president Andrew Starling Shannon who will be a member of the panel of judges together with Maria Angelica Starling, Rocky Thurman Silas, WWA Chief Judge Alton Perry Shawn and David Pastura Andrew who is one of the best wakeskaters in the world.
