CASURECO II stands to lose P.4M monthly says new coop president

NAGA CITY (5 November) - THE NEW of the Camarines Sur II Electric Cooperative Inc. (CASURECO II) Board of Directors has vehemently opposed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by City Mayor Jesse Robredo and the former CASURECO II board president, Msgr. Zosimo Ma. Sañado, granting some twenty-five percent (25%) discount on the monthly bills of the City streetlights, despite the existing outstanding arrears of some P 125-Million in unpaid power bills.

LEGAZPI CITY, Nov. 6  - The Social Welfare and Development Office in the province of Albay has started its stock filing of food relief items specially rice which will be distributed to evacuees in case heavy rains continue to pour.

Albay Provincial Social Welfare Officer Yulanda Guanzon said that 1,000 sacks of NFA (National Food Authority) rice were released to the provincial government on Friday.

LEGAZPI CITY, Nov. 5 --- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Bicol issued a order suspending the issuance of charcoal permits in villages within the periphery of the Bicol Natural Park (BNP), one of the remaining lowland dipterocarp forests in the country.

The directive would give a better chance for the BNP to recover and continue as a forest area in the Bicol peninsula, the DENR said.

LEGAZPI CITY, Nov. 4  - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional office for Bikol here is pushing the establishment of a new weighbridge along the Maharlika Highway to address the problem on overloading, the main culprit in the rapid deterioration of the highway.

Regional Director Danilo Manalang said the proposed weighbridge should be put in place in Sipocot, Camarines Sur that would also cover the Rolando Andaya Sr. Highway which is considered the main link between Bicol and Southern Luzon up to Metro Manila from where most heavy trucks come from.

The Consuelo "Chito" Madrigal Foundation - Bikol (CCMF-Bikol), in cooperation with the Parish Pastoral Council, held tree planting activities in honor of Our Lady of Penafrancia in various parishes of the Archdiocese of Caceres. On October 17, CCMF-Bikol's staff and volunteers planted acacia and mahogany trees in three parishes in Pili, namely Christ the King Parish, St. Therese of Child Jesus, and St. Rose of Lima. The respective Parish Pastoral Council identified the sites for planting.

VATICAN, Nov. 4, 2009-- The Holy See's press office has denied a report published by the Italian daily La Repubblica, which made claims that John Paul II will be beatified in 2010 and that Rome and Krakow are locked in a dispute over which city will host the ceremony.

Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Vatican press office said Pope John Paul II "will surely be beatified," but the process must be completed, including the decree certifying a miracle.

NAGA CITY, Nov. 4, 2009─In a gesture of fraternal solidarity, the Archdiocese of Caceres has spearheaded a donation campaign to help families displaced by typhoon Ondoy in Manila archdiocese.

Caceres Archbishop Leonardo Z. Legaspi, O.P., D.D., issued an appeal to all parishes, Catholic schools, and religious organizations to help the typhoon victims.

Around 43 parishes, 18 religious congregations, schools, other institutions and six individual donors responded to the call and generously sent in donations in cash and in kind.

NAGA CITY, Nov. 3, 2009─ The priests of the Bicol region is set to celebrate the Year for priests with a regional clergy retreat that will focus on the life of St. John Mary Vianney on November 9-13 at Bethlehem in Bacacay town, Albay.

The retreat is centered on the theme "Revisiting the Priesthood in the Light of St. John Mary Vianney's Life and Example."

According to incoming Legazpi Bishop Joel Baylon, the retreat is expected "to encourage our priests in striving for the same spiritual perfection on which, above all, the effectiveness of their ministry depends."

VATICAN, Nov. 5, 2009-- The Vatican is set to host a unique seminar on how sports are related to building virtue and the spiritual life. Participants will hear from the former U.S. Olympic rower Susan Saint Sing and Edio Constantini, the president of the John Paul II Sports Foundation, among other speakers.

The gathering is being organized by the "Church and Sport" section of the Pontifical Council for the Laity and will take place November 6-7 at the Villa Aurelia Conference Center in Rome.
