SM Naga Opens May 1 Amid Typhoons
Naga City--Despite the continuous rain showers brought by typhoons Dante and Crising, the show must go on for Naga’s newest SM Prime holdings supermall, the SM City Naga, which opened to the public today, Labor Day.
At 9:00 in the morning, an hour before SM’s Grand Opening, mass of people from all over Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes,Sorsogon and Masbate, were enthused waiting outside the mall.
When the 87,959-sq.m., two-story mall did open at 10:00 AM, it offered numerous dining choices which include the SM Food court, local and international food chains, restaurants, and family food outlets. The mall also had the SM Department Store, SM Supermarket, and several tenant stores open and ready for shoppers.
SM City Naga’s Grand Opening had the additional attractions of inviting celebrities, among which was Jericho Rosales, himself a Bikolano. However, due to the unfavorable weather, all flights were cancelled which revoked Jericho’s mall tour.
The crowd was nonetheless cheered with their street dances courtesy of Mang Inasal and the fireworks display.
Other activities lined up by the new mall were the tours of the PINOY DREAM ACADEMY’S scholars and stars from PINOY FEAR FACTOR. Meanwhile, the crowds also flocked to a job’s fair dubbed “Jobapalooza” which was held at SM Naga as part of the celebration of Labor Day.
Reportedly, one of SM’s priorities in establishing the business is to make Naga the center of trade, commerce, transport, education, and government services in Camarines Sur. However, the new mall’s actual impact to local businesses and other sectors is yet to be assessed.
