MANILA, Philippines (Jan 6, 2012) - The case the the "euro generals" is not put to rest after all, as Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales has ordered its reinvestigation.

Former interior secretary Ronaldo Puno and a dozen other former and current officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) led by retired Director General Avelino Razon Jr. will be investigated for graft and technical malversation of public funds “for approving, receiving, and/or using or allowing the use of the amount of (P2,314,096.00) from the PNP confidential/intelligence fund for travel expense and allowance of delegates to the Interpol Assembly in St. Petersburg, Russia.”

MANILA, Dec. 27, 2011—Environmental advocacy group, Kalikasan People’s Network for the Environment (KPNE) asserted that the Aquino administration should be held accountable for what happened in two of Mindanao’s key cities, Iligan and Cagayan de Oro, for allegedly “coddling” loggers and lack of disaster preparedness that could have saved thousands of lives.

BACOLOD City, Dec. 22, 2011— In response to the invitation of the Episcopal Commission on Youth to plant at least one million trees nationwide, the Diocesan Commission on Youth planted at least 300 seedlings at Sitio Lantawan, Brgy. Guimbalaon, Silay City last December 11.

The Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY), on the celebration of its 25th year, has urged the Filipino youth to concretely express their love for Mother Earth by protecting, preserving and restoring the environment through various activities, including tree planting.

QUEZON CITY, philippines (Dec 23, 2011) - The National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) favored GMA Marketing and Productions, Inc. (GMPI), the marketing arm of broadcast giant GMA Network, Inc. (GMA), in a labor case filed by its former Sales Director Corazon Guison.

In a Resolution issued on November 15, 2011, the Fifth Division of the NLRC presided by Commissioner Leonardo Leonida reversed and set aside the Decision of Labor Arbiter Joel Lustria dated January 31, 2011 which declared Guison's dismissal from employment as illegal.

ILIGAN City, Dec. 21, 2011—Relief and rehabilitation should not only be limited to those whose homes were swept away by flashfloods, but help should also be extended to families whose houses were partially damaged by the typhoon, a priest said.

This, according to Iligan Social Action Director Fr. Albert Mendez, who assessed the situation after meeting evacuees in various government facilities and churches in the city.

NAGA CITY (Dec 13,2011) – In response to the resurgence of motorcycle-borne “riding in tandem” robbers, thirty policemen have volunteered to use their personally-owned motorcycles to patrol the 27 Barangays of this city and augment the city police’s  integrated anti-crime system.

The police chief is appreciative of the scheme where “riding in tandem” cops shall be fitted against “riding in tandem” criminals.

 A joint police-army team conducted an entrapment operation in Barangay Sta. Rosa Del Norte in the said town and recovered high-powered firearms and large quantity of ammunitions in possession of the suspects.

BRUSSELS – The European Union (EU) has indicated its readiness to be a useful element of “balance” in the strategic situation in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) and may play a mediation role in the territorial dispute.

Speaking on EU-Southeast Asia relations in a briefing at EU headquarters here Wednesday, European External Action Service Southeast Asia Division deputy head Philippe van Amersfoort said EU would welcome any request from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to help resolve the dispute.

MANILA, Philippines (Nov 23, 2011) – As if to remind the nation that  Maguindanao is still a hot spot of deep-seated conflicts, a bomb exploded along a highway leading to  the site of the gruesome Maguindanao massacre that is being commemorated today.

Hundreds were to flock to the massacre site for a mass and ceremonies to remember the 58 people who perished at the site 2 years ago.

The commemorative ceremonies proceeded without any untoward incidents...

DAET, Camarines Norte (Nov. 6, 2011) – A security aide of Camarines Norte Governor Edgardo “Egay” Tallado was wounded in an ambush carried out by motorcycle-riding suspects but managed to fire back at the suspects killing one of them. Camarines Norte Police director, Sr. Supt. Roberto Bigay Fajardo identified the security aide as retired policeman SPO4 Roni Bardon who sustained non-fatal wounds in the head and shoulder.

Several sensational cases of murders were recorded by the police in October this year...

MANILA, Philippines (Nov 5, 2011) - Nine former officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) will spend 6 to 10 years in jail after the Sandiganbayan convicted them of graft in connection with the ghost purchase of P38.2-million worth of combat uniforms and equipment in 1992.

Among those convicted of graft were former PNP logistics command (LogCom) chief Director Everlino Nartatez, then service store system administrator, Senior Superintendent Alejandro Espiritu Jr., former Logcom procurement center chief, Superintendent Obedio Espena, and former chief of the directorate for materials Superintendent Alejandro Camello.

In celebration of the World Mission Day, the Caceres Commission on Missions organized a Children's Congress for Holy Childhood last October 23, 2011 (Sunday). Held at the Basilica Minore de Peñafrancia, the Congress started with an animation followed by a mass at nine o'clock in the morning, celebrated by Rev. Fr. Rex Hidalgo, Director of the Caceres Youth Ministry.

In celebration of the World Mission Day, the Caceres Commission on Missions organized a Children's Congress for Holy Childhood last October 23, 2011 (Sunday). Held at the Basilica Minore de Peñafrancia, the Congress started with an animation followed by a mass at nine o'clock in the morning, celebrated by Rev. Fr. Rev. Msgr. Rodel Cajot, Rector of the Basilica Minore de Peñafrancia, and Rev. Fr. Louie Occiano, Director of the Caceres Commission on Communications, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony held at five-thirty in the afternoon of October 21.

According to Provincial Police director, Sr. Supt. Roberto B. Fajardo, the suspect identified as Arnold Zantua, alias "Dondong" has long been under surveillance as the leader of the "Zantua Drug group" that distributes shabu in Daet and neighboring towns...
