  • LEGAZPI CITY, Nov. 6 (PNA) - A magnitude 6 earthquake rocked Masbate, Sorsogon and Albay provinces as well as Cebu City early Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

  • Pili, Camarines Sur (8 September) -- Bikol now ranks first among the regions in the entire country in palay production growth rate based from the report of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS).

    Bikol posted a 17.3% palay production growth rate in the first semester of 2009 compared to the first semester of last year, the highest among the rice producing regions.

  • LEGAZPI CITY, Sept. 9 -- The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has announced Wednesday that mobile personnel were dispatched since August this year to Hong Kong.

    PhilHealth said this is to provide access and information to Filipinos on the agency's membership updates and renewal, claims and benefits, and premium remittance concerns.

    In a statement, Bro. Eddie Villanueva vowed to pursue his presidential bid for the 2010 elections as Bangon Pilipinas' standard bearer.

    Villanueva said he respects the decision of Senator Mar Roxas and Pampanga Gov. Ed Panlilio in uniting behind Aquino, but it will not dissuade him from pushing through with his plans for the country.

    Velarde admitted that his 2010 political plans is one issue that somehow rocks the unity of his followers due to their varied perceptions about him leaving the pulpit to politics.

    Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines president Archbishop Angel Lagdameo said the Senate probe could help ferret out the truth who among those officials is abusing people's money.

  • MANILA, August 20, 2009- Amidst plans to revive the peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, a Catholic bishop asked the government peace panel to avoid the same mistake it did in the past.

    According to Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez, the government must take into consideration last year's Supreme Court decision on the Memorandum of Agreement on ancestral domain (MOA-AD), which it ruled as being "unconstitutional".

  • NAGA CITY- A welcome competitor put 'padyak' (pedicab) drivers in Naga City on a day-off last August 15.

    Along with four kids and a city councilor, Senator Manuel "Mar" Roxas drove a pedicab through the streets of downtown Naga, to the surprise and delight of curious onlookers, some of which exclaimed, "Nagpapadyak talaga si Kuya Mar! (Kuya Mar really knows how to drive pedicab!)

  • BOTOLAN, Zambales, Aug. 7  -- More than 1,000 families were affected as 10 barangays in this town went under water after a protected dike here collapsed due to heavy rains brought by typhoon "Kiko" late Thursday

    Botolan Mayor Roger Yap said the protected dike along Bucao River overflowed and collapsed, diverting the flood water from the river to Barangay Carael and then to nine more nearby barangays.
