  • LEGAZPI CITY, March 28  -- Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Manuel Villar dreams big for Bikol Region where poverty incidence remains high despite a moderate 4.3 percent growth of its economy in 2008.

    If he is elected president in the May polls, Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Manuel Villar said he wants the income of the whole Bikol Region to be at the level being enjoyed by the country's progressive regions, including the National Capital Region (NCR).

  • MANILA, July 28 -- President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo has signed the Executive Order imposing the Maximum Drug Retail Price (MDRP) on five drugs not compliant with the recommendation of the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

    The President signed yesterday (July 27) Executive Order No. 821, "Prescribing the Maximum Drug Retail Prices for Selected Drugs and Medicines that Address Diseases that Account for the Leading Causes of Morbidity and Mortality."

  • NAIA,May 8 (PNA) -- Boxing great Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao and party planed in at dawn Friday minus the accompanying grandiose welcome treat befitting a sports hero.

    The Philippine Airlines (PAL) plane flight PR 103 carrying the world boxing icon and his Team Pacquiao touched down at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport(NAIA) Centennial Terminal 2 at exactly 6 a.m. from Los Angeles, California following his victorious knockout match with British boxing champion Ricky 'Hitman' Hatton in second round in MGM Grand Arena, Las Vegas,Nevada last May 3.

  • MANILA, August 5, 2009- Thousands of Filipinos from all walks of life joined the Catholic Church to bid farewell to a woman described by Pope Benedict XVI as a "woman of deep and unwavering faith."

    Mourners lined the streets around the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception as political and business leaders, students and thousands of others heard the funeral rites for former president Corazon Aquino.

    Mrs Aquino died at age of 76 on August 1 after from cardio-respiratory arrest due to complications of colon cancer.

    Funeral rites for the country's "icon of democracy" started 9 a.m. on August 5, with Balanga Bishop Socrates Villegas welcoming the congregation.

  • MANILA, Sept 30, 2009-The Bishops of Samar Islands along with the local government units headed by Easter Samar Governor Ben Evardone have decided to give a posthumous award to the murdered priest, Fr. Cecilio Lucero.

    Evardone said that this move to grant Lucero an award is a recognition and tribute to his involvement in creating peace and development in their province.

  • MANILA, Jan. 21, 2010-Retired Catholic Bishop Teodoro Bacani maintains he is against Joseph's Estrada's comeback bid for the presidency, saying the country needs a new leader.

    Bacani, one of Estrada's spiritual advisers, said it's a high time to have genuine reforms in the government and that includes filling it up with better leaders.

    "Personally, I am against his candidacy because the country really needs real reforms... wherein there is a new leader who will lead us," he said.
