  • MANILA, June 25, 2010-Scholars from various disciplines will convene this month to discuss Philippine socio-economic issues in the light of Pope Benedict XVI's encyclical Caritas in Veritate (Charity in Truth).

    The congress, entitled "God and Country: Driving Philippine Development in Truth-Filled Love," will be held at University of Asia and the Pacific in Ortigas City on June 25.

  • VATICAN, Feb. 11, 2010-- The fact that human beings must endure illness, grow old and experience pain in body and spirit is a mystery that all the major religious seek to understand, said speakers at a Vatican conference.

    Representatives of various faiths who gathered at the Vatican Feb. 9 to discuss the nature of illness and the care of the sick also agreed that faith and spirituality help people find meaning in human suffering and that faith offers a comfort that physical or medical solutions cannot provide.

  • The first "Bishop Francisco Gainza Trade Fair" which would showcase the best of Bikol products is set to be conducted on September 9 to 20, 2010 at the Open Parking Area of SM City Naga from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.

    The activity is named in honor of Bishop Gainza who pioneered the first agricultural and industrial expo in Bikol in 1875 as a feature of the Peñafrancia Festivities.

  • MANILA, June 12, 2010- A Catholic bishop has joined calls for the Joint Congressional Oversight Committee to form an independent body to assess the just-concluded automated elections.

    Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo along with other conveners of the Automated Election System Watch (AES Watch) made the appeal in a letter sent to the House committee.

  • New Delhi (16 July) -- Federal Home Minister P. Chidambaram is to introduce a Mother Teresa commemorative coin to mark the nun's birth centenary next month, a Church official said.

    "We thank the government for its noble gesture," said Father Babu Joseph, spokesperson of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India.

    Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil would officially introduce the coin during a celebration of the centenary in New Delhi on Aug. 28, he said.

  • MANILA, July 22, 2010- A Catholic bishop has criticized the Manilad Water Services Inc. for "mismanagement" causing a water crisis affecting a large portion of Metro Manila.

    Bishop Jose Oliveros of Malolos said the blame should go to the company because million liters of water are lost daily due to its leaked water pipes.

    "They should have done something about this long time ago... they are just making repairs now," Oliveros said over Church-run Radyo Veritas.

  • MANILA, July 8, 2010-The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has created its first ever video game for kids with "catechetical value."

    The CBCP's Episcopal Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education (ECCCE) will launch it during a press conference on Friday, July 9.

    CBCP has developed the first game called "Paolo's Journey" within the Commission itself and is available for PC and Mac users.

    "Paolo's Journey is a 3D video game based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
