DAET, Camarines Norte (Nov. 6, 2011) – A security aide of Camarines Norte Governor Edgardo “Egay” Tallado was wounded in an ambush carried out by motorcycle-riding suspects but managed to fire back at the suspects killing one of them. Camarines Norte Police director, Sr. Supt. Roberto Bigay Fajardo identified the security aide as retired policeman SPO4 Roni Bardon who sustained non-fatal wounds in the head and shoulder.

DAET, Camarines Norte (Nov. 1, 2011) – The local government of this Capital town is reclaiming part of  the 11, 000-hectare area of the Bicol National Park (BNP) within the Camarines Norte side of the national park that is currently in the territorial jurisdiction of neighboring town of Basud.

SAN PASCUAL, Masbate (Oct. 21, 2011) – This island municipality that faces the coast of Pasacao, Camarines Sur likes to be a territorial part of the province of Camarines Sur.

 In a local news article, San Pascual town Mayor Jose Maria “Jojo” Rivera said that there is a growing sentiment among the residents of San Pascual, Masbate  that they prefer to be part of the province of Camarines Sur rather than Masbate because of their proximity to the Camarines Sur coastline, which is only an hour and 15 minutes boat ride away.

NAGA CITY  (Oct 21, 2011) – Alarmed at the rising incidents of killings  attributed to the New People’s Army (NPA), Police Bicol director, Chief Supt. Cecilio Calleja, ordered the Police provincial office of Camarines Sur to conduct an in-depth investigation on the brutal slaying of a barangay chairman in Daculang Tubig, San Fernando, Cam. Sur in October 15.

SIPOCOT, Camarines Sur (Oct. 16, 2011) – The Mayor and the Sangguniang Bayan members  of this town stand as one in firm opposition to the resumption of the construction of a  dam that was started and later shelved during the term of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has proposed a new design of the proposed dam in the hope of gaining public acceptance of the project that shall be located in barangay Malaguico in this municipality.

In a position paper , Sipocot Mayor Rogener “Ogie” Astor and company reiterated their opposiotion to the contruction of the dam, citing risk to 20,000 residents in 6 villages including the town’s commercial district – same areas that were submerged by the worst flood in Bicol history when the Bicol river overflowed several meters high when Typhoon “Rosing”  hit Bicol in 1995..

PILI, Camarines Sur (Oct. 14, 2011) – Charges of  violation of RA 8550 or the Amended Fisheries Code of the Philippines have been filed against the owners of 6 fishing vessels that are used in large-scale illegal fishing in Ragay Gulf.

The vessels are now in the custody of a special task force of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)  central office.

The crew of the said vessels were were caught in Ragay Gulf  early this week using prohibited fishing gears like fine nets, bag nets and ring nets.

CALABANGA, Camarines Sur (Oct 11, 2011) - This coastal town has been a beneficiary of calamity preparedness and disaster response training programs supervised by foreign Non-Government Organizations (NGOs).

CARE-Nederlands and Christian Aid have been implementing calamity preparedness and disaster response programs in this town since it was chosen as a pilot area after Typhoon Reming devastated the town in 2006.
