CAPALONGA, Camarines Norte (Oct. 22, 2013) – Residents of this coastal town are in a state of mourning and shock over the untimely death of seven employees of their municipal government, including an outstanding accountant and a senior bookkeeper, who figured in a tragic vehicular accident in Atimonan, Quezon on Saturday (Oct. 19).

Capalonga town Mayor Zenardo Jalgalado told newsmen on Monday (Oct.21) that the local government has released funds for the medical assistance of the surviving victims from his town, in addition to the hospitalization assistance being given by bus firm Superlines to the 57 passengers hurt in the tragic traffic accident.

Jalgalado said most of the injured passengers, who are still confined in a hospital in Quezon province, come from Capalonga...

BALATAN,CAMARINES SUR— Mayor Ernesto Bagasbas of this coastal town confirmed on Tuesday (Oct.1) that he ordered residents of a fishing village here to return back to sea a rare Leatherback turtle.

The turtle, measuring 182 centimeters in length, 96 centimeters in width and weighing approximately 500-kilos, was found by Balatan fisherman Alberto Pasaba entangled in a local fishing gear called,”barangayan.”

PILI, Camarines Sur—Unlike in Naga City, residents of this capital town favor cutting hundreds of trees along their highway to pave the way for the four-lane road expansion project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) .

PILI, CAMARINES SUR – The local government of this capital town in cooperation with the Kapisanan Ng Mga Broadkasters Sa Pilipinas (KBP ) planted 2,000 pili and hard wood variety trees to enhance the ecology of some 160 hectares of forest reserve at the foot of Mt. Isarog in barangays Curry and Bongcao in this municipality on Saturday morning (Sept. 7).

Pili town Mayor Alexis San Luis II said, the protected forest area was given by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to the Local Government of Pili under a stewardship arrangement in 2007 during the mayoral term of his late father, Alexis San Luis.

An Profeta, the first ever Bikol translation of Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet will be launched on September 10, 2013, Arrupe Convention Center, Ateneo de Naga University  at 4:30pm. Translated by Fr. NABUA, CAMARINES SUR – After President Noynoy Aquino announced the abolition of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) when the Php10 Billion Napoles pork barrel scam exploded in the open, beneficiaries of the pork barrel system have quietly worried about possible loss of financial support that they receive out of the PDAF of lawmakers.

According to Ariel Royobe, a staff member of Camarines Sur 5th District Representative Salvio Fortuno, 2000 student beneficiaries have trooped to the lawmaker's congressional office in this town the past week to inquire on the status of the financial assistance that they regularly receive out of Fortuno's PDAF in the amount of P3,000 per semester to 3,500 college students.

The students have signed a petition asking the President to retain the PDAF because it is a critical source of finances for the education of tertiary level students in the Rinconada area (5th congressional district of Camarines Sur)...

MANILA, Philippines - A low-pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Mindanao yesterday is expected to bring rains over some parts of the country this weekend, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the low-pressure area has a good chance of intensifying into a cyclone within the next two to three days.

The appeal to postpone the upcoming SK polls is to give ample time for our legislators to process the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Reform and Empowerment Bill. MANILA, Philippines - Former Camarines Sur governor Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. is facing a P20-million graft case before the Sandiganbayan for alleged misuse of public funds three years ago.

The Office of the Ombudsman filed the criminal charges against Villafuerte and businessman Jeffrey Lo last week following an investigation into a complaint lodged by former provincial board member Carlo Batalla in July 2011.

Villafuerte was indicted for his alleged involvement in the questionable purchase of P20 million worth of fuel within a period of four months from January to April 2010 which was done supposedly without a public bidding...

NAGA CITY – As part of the activities to commemorate the first death anniversary of the late Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Manalastas Robredo, his widow, Maria Lenora 'Leni' Gerona Robredo shall travel from Cebu City to Masbate, retracing the path of the tragic journey her husband took one year ago.

Mrs. Robredo, who is now the Congresswoman of the 3rd District of Camarines Sur, shall take off from Cebu City on the 15th of August and will visit the exact site, some 500-meters away from the Masbate City Airport at the coastal Barangay of Ibingay, where Robredo’s twine-engine Piper PA-34-200 Seneca aircraft crashed in the afternoon of August 18, 2012.

Leni Robredo told newsmen here “that she has been wanting to do the journey to thank the people of Masbate and to meet the family of the plane pilot, Jessup Bahinting, in Cebu City...”

NAGA CITY July 30, 2013 – Presidential Awardee Policewoman PO3 Edlyn Arbo was welcomed with honors at the Camarines Sur Police Provincial Office on Sunday (July 28) during a lunchtime gathering and press conference and later at the flag-raising ceremonies at the Regional Police Office in Legazpi City.

Arbo was one of the three members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who received recognition from President Benigno Simeon Aquino III for meritorious deeds during his recent State of the Nation Address.

NAGA CITY (July 5, 2013) – A four-hour blaze that gutted the Master Square Department Store Supermarket and Fastfood at Barangay Abella early morning of Thursday (July 4) resulted in damages reaching nearly Php300 Million, according to a kin of the late owner Rosendo Dy.

The unofficial damage figure includes the cost of the entire Master Square complex and facilities and millions of pesos worth of merchandise that were totally destroyed in the blaze.

TIGAON, CAMARINES SUR – Vice President Jejomar Binay came to this town to administer the Oaths of Office of three elected officials belonging to the influential Fuentebella clan of the Partido district of Camarines Sur province, joined by nine elected mayors of the district including other mayors belonging to the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) in three other districts of the province.

In what is considered the most pompous oath-taking ceremony for newly elected officials held in the province after the May 2013 elections, President Binay primarily administered the oath Wednesday (July 3) to newly elected Congressman of the Partido district (C. Sur 4th district) Felix William B. Fuentebella who succeeded his father, outgoing Congressman Arnulfo “Noli” Fuentebella. The latter was the congressional representative of the district from 2005 to 2013.

Other Fuentebella clan members who took their oath before the Vice-President were re-elected Tigaon town Mayor Arnulfo Bryan B. Fuentebella and his mother, re-elected Sañgay town Mayor Evelyn Bukid Fuentebella.

CAMP SIMEON OLA, LEGAZPI CITY – Joint elements of army units belonging to the 31st Infantry Battalion and the 96th Military Intelligence Company (MICO) of the Philippine Army's 9th Infantry Division fought rebels in a 35-minute gun-battle where 8 rebels were killed at dawn of Thursday (July 4, 2013).

Automatic weapons and explosive devices were also recovered from the rebels. In a report relayed to the Philippine National Police (PNP) regional office in this camp, army troops of the joint unit recovered, 3, Baby Armalites; 2, M-16 rifles, (Armalites) attached with M-203 Grenade launchers, some ammunitions and an “Improvised Explosive Device” (IED).
