Manila Auxiliary Bishop Bernardino Cortez threatened of a "legal battle" in order to protect the health, security and environment of the residents in a crowded district in the city.

NAGA CITY, May 26 (PNA) -- Some 375 day care workers from the different towns in Camarines Sur attended last week the two-day Seminar-Workshop on Classroom Management in Day Care Centers and Orientation on the News Standards for Center-Based (ECCD) programs sponsored by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at the Regent Hotel in here.

The seminar aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of the day care workers and ensure standard implementation of the Day Care Services and other ECCD Programs.

PILI CAMARINES SUR (27 May)-- ABOUT A HUNDRED fish-cage operators in nine barangays surrounding Lake Bato in this province is being planned for a rehab-assistance by the regional office of the Bureau of Fisheries And Aquatic Resources (BFAR) base here, after the said operators sustained big losses reaching P 11.714 million as a result of a "fish-kill" incident that affected more than 4,000 fish-cages and the loss of some 151,500 Tilapia-fish stocks.

MANILA, May 20, 2009-An official of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said that bishops are firm on their position not to favor the amendment of the Constitution.

Changing the Charter is not necessary in order to institute reforms in the country today.

"Ulitin ko lang po yung stand nila (na) hindi kinakailangan ang chacha upang baguhin ang ating bansa (at) ating mga tao," stated Msgr. Pedro Quitorio, Media Director of CBCP.

MANILA, May 19, 2009-The head of the Catholic bishops' leadership called on deposed President Joseph Estrada to retire from politics and give others a chance to lead the country.

Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) president Archbishop Angel Lagdameo said Estrada must give way to more capable candidates by not joining the presidential race in 2010.

Lagdameo was reacting to reports that Estrada can and may still run in next year's polls.

The month of May marks another significant event for the fisheries sector as the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) - Bicol installs Mr. Marco C. Visperas of Aroroy, Masbate as its 5th Fisherfolk Regional Director (FRD).

The formal installation and turn-over of the ceremonial key was held at BFAR Regional Office, San Agustin, Pili, Camarines Sur on May 11, 2009.

BFAR OIC-Regional Director Dennis V. Del Soccoro graciously turned-over the symbolic key to Mr. Visperas as witnessed by BFAR employees and fisherfolk leaders.

VATICAN, May 19, 2009-- The first social encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI, which will probably be called "Veritas in caritate" (Truth in Charity), appears as if it will see the light of day on June 29, the solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, a source from the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace informed CNA.

NAGA CITY-Daet Mayor Tito Sarion said the proposal of opposition Sen. Francis 'Chiz' Escudero to give regular salary instead of honorarium to a barangay official is impractical.

"It would drain the resources of either the barangay or the national government," says Sarion.

Escudero the other day called for "a fair and fixed salary for barangay officials rather than a mere honorarium based on the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) given to them by LGUs."

NAGA CITY-In the past, school buildings in Panicuason Elementary School by this time of the year had been repainted already. But now, barely three weeks before the opening of classes, classrooms in this school farthest from the city proper of Naga are yet to burn in colors to welcome giddy schoolchildren.

"We don't have enough school funds this year to shoulder the cost of repainting the classrooms," OIC school head Minette Mira told Vox Bikol on the first day of the yearly Brigada Eskwela.

PILI, Camarines Sur, May 18 -- A suspected New People's Army (NPA) leader was slain in a clash with government troopers in a remote village in Lagonoy town in Camarines Sur on Sunday, a Philippine Army officer said Monday.

Killed was only identified as Ka Elmer, an NPA leader in charge of the movements revolutionary taxation group operating in the fourth district of Camarines Sur.

PILI, CAMSUR-The Provincial Government of Camarines Sur in collaboration with the regional office  of  the  Department  of  Health  conducted  an  orientation  seminar on  Influenza A (H1N1) Tuesday, May  19   at  Regent Hotel  to  inform  and  educate  participants  on the  salient  points  of  this  virus  which  originated in Mexico  and  now inexorably spreading to different parts of the world.

The activity was spearheaded a composite team from the DOH regional office and personnel of Camarines Sur's Provincial Health Office.

The activity  was  fully  supported  by  Governor  LRay  Villafuerte  who considers the health  of  his  constituents  among the  priorities  of  his intensified social services programs.

SEOUL, May 19 (PNA/Yonhap) -- Leaders of the world's 80 largest cities that produce a majority of the earth's harmful greenhouse gases opened an international forum in Seoul Tuesday, calling on governments to swiftly chart strategies to fight global warming.

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton, who gave the keynote speech during the opening ceremony of the C40 Large Cities Climate Summit in Seoul, warned of fatal consequences unless greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by up to 80 percent by 2050.

NABUA, CAMARINES SUR - A LOCAL RESIDENT here, who were among three suspects in the slaying of a young nurse in Monterey Village, Naga City in August 20, 2008, was shot to death by a gunman inside her residence at Zone 6, Barangay Lourdes Young in this town, the local police reported to the police provincial office on last May 16.

The victim identified as Ruby Rosa Biares Alimagno was shot five times by a gunman using a Cal. 45 pistol, who was reportedly with two other suspects.

TIGAON CAMARINES SUR (May 19) - The discovery of the lifeless and mutilated body of a girl on a corn field at Zone 5, Brgy. Talojongon, Tigaon has shocked the whole of Partido area in this province.

The child's body was recovered last Friday, May 15, 10:00 a.m. by a worker who was applying fertilizer on the plantation on the said day. Initial investigation states that the child was 1 year and 4 months young and was last seen by her relatives on the afternoon of May 12.

NAGA CITY -- A bill filed by Camarines Sur Second District Congressman Luis R. Villafuerte creating five congressional districts for the province is still facing opposition, now in its last leg of deliberation in the Senate.

Reportedly, the Senate will be voting for the passage of the bill in a plenary session set before the end of the month, a mayor from Cam. Sur's first district revealed.

In the latest deliberation of the bill at the Senate Committee on Local Government, chaired by Senator Benigno "Nonoy" Aquino III, the Congressman's son, Camarines Sur Governor Luis Raymund Villafuerte had opposed the passage of the bill, citing a resolution passed by the Camarines Sur Sangguniang Panlalawigan and other resolutions allegedly by the Cam. Sur League of Municipalities and Barangay officials.
