This Sunday, Born Impact tackles alien species that create havoc in the natural environment. From other countries, humans managed to get them into the Philippines purposefully or by accident. In the absence of natural predators, they flourish, reproduce more quickly, and become a threat to natural wildlife that they either eat or compete with for food. Eventually they become “invasive,” taking over areas where native species once thrived.

Decree restoring the practice of celebrating funeral masses at the Basilica of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, Naga City

In a Decree dated 7 October 2011, among other things, the privilege of celebrating funeral masses and of keeping the records of the same which was granted to the Basilica Minore in 1988 was revoked. (cf. No. 8 of the 7 October 2011 Decree). This was done in order that the Basilica Minore may be true to its mission as prescribed by Pope John Paull II’s Decree of Elevation of the Shrine to a Basilica Minore declaring the same Basilica Minore as a sacred place exclusively for the promotion of the Cult and Piety towards the Blessed Virgin Mary.

MANILA, March 13, 2013— Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle’s Facebook page showed an unusual spike in “likes”, growing by more than 5,000 in four days. The notable increase was particularly started a day before the cardinals around the world sequestered themselves in the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican for the conclave.
