RH Bill: A Grand Deception

On August 6, Congress voted viva voce to end debates on the RH Bill or House Bill No. 4244, “An Act Providing for a Comprehensive Policy on Responsible Parenthood, Reproductive Health, and Population and Development, and For Other Purposes.”

While the voting was originally scheduled for Aug. 7, it was rushed on Aug. 6, after members of congress were summoned to Malacañan. President Aquino reportedly told them to end all the talking. Thus, they voted quickly back in Congress that same day.

PROVINCIAL CAPITOL, Pili, Camarines Sur (Aug 10, 2012) – The Provincial Government and Pili municipal government have strongly condemned the brutal killing of New San Roque barangay captain Gerald Patagoc Regullano in the hand of army soldier.

Camarines Sur Vice-Governor Fortunato Peña announced during the regular session of the Provincial Board this week that as they condemn the killing of Regullano, they "will support his family in seeking justice for his murder."

Army patrol ambushed in Lanao del Sur, 3 killed

MARAWI CITY (Aug 9, 2012) - Army soldiers who are conducting security patrol here were ambushed by heavily armed men late last night (Wednesday).

The 14-man strong patrol belonging to the 65th Infantry Battalion led by Lt Col Siegred Espina, was on board a KM 450 truck when they were fired upon by undetermined number of gunmen in the Mindanao State University campus grounds at around 9:00 pm.

The soldiers fought back the attackers who fled after inflicting casualties on the government troops, after about 30mins of exchange of fires.

NPA rebels attack Army rescue teams in Masbate

MILAGROS, Masbate (Aug 8, 2012) - Communist rebels attacked the Army rescue teams which were sent for disaster response operations in Palanas town here at 6:10am today.

Lt Col Julian C Pacatan, the Commanding Officer of the 9IB, said that the soldiers were part of the Disaster Response Operations platoon that was deployed to identified flood-prone areas in the town of Palanas.

He said that his troops proceeded to the area despite persistent reports that a small band of communist rebels were out to conduct atrocities against the lightly-armed rescue team.

MANILA, Philippines (Aug 9, 2012) - The death toll from torrential monsoon rains rose to 19 yesterday, with over 700,000 residents evacuated from flooded areas in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported. NDRRMC executive director Benito Ramos, however, said only 16 deaths had been verified, including nine landslide victims in Quezon City.

Army corporal faces murder charges for killing of Barangay captain

PILI, Camarines Sur (Aug 6, 2012) – An army corporal belonging to the 565th Engineering Battalion, Philippines Army based at Camp Wenee Martillana in this capital town is facing murder charges in connection with the fatal shooting of a 28 year-old barangay captain of New San Roque early morning of Sat. (Aug.4).

The Pili Municipal Police identified the suspect as army Corporal Leonardo Capranca who was is now in the custody of the Camarines Sur police provincial office.

Opponents of CamSur division want plebiscite held after 2013 elections

NAGA CITY – During the public hearing conducted by the Senate Committee on Local Government on the bill proposing the division of Camarines Sur, Governor Luis Raymund Villafuerte made an appeal to move the proposed plebiscite on the matter after the 2013 mid-term elections.

Some 8000 protagonists on both sides of the issue packed the Naga City Coliseum Thursday for a Senate committee hearing that lasted for 6 hours. Senator Bongbong Marcos presided over the meeting with committe members, Senators Gregorio Honasan and Manuel Villar also in attendance.
