GSIS Brouhaha

It took a lot of discernment before I finally decided to lie out my sentiments and write something about an ugly incident that happened to me at GSIS during a routine government transaction.
Much as I wanted to bury the ruckus under the list of "experiences," I felt that I needed to say my piece here to finally attain my peace.
As a good civil servant, I was just following the drudgery of a simple GSIS procedure like applying for an E-Card Plus – another requirement for all government employees – when suddenly; a very routine procedure went awry and downright bizarre!
Not because of the usual red tape with most government transactions which the general public is so used to or better yet immune by now but by a very discourteous attitude and patronizing manner of a GSIS employee assigned to its frontline services.
To cut the story to the bone:  out of the thousands of harassed government workers, perhaps, that has gone through the same process and gratingly accepted the condescending demeanor of a few of these GSIS frontline workers, the stars may have aligned in my favor because I was the one who received the brunt of the employee's snapping temper and I just did not take it sitting down!  No sir, definitely not me.
I voiced out my opinion and demanded an explanation for their rude treatment of us GSIS members to the cheers and encouragement from an audience of fellow government workers patiently lined up and waiting for their turn.  When I did not get a satisfactory response from the GSIS trying to control and diffuse the situation perceived by many, including myself, of siding and defending their actions, I, having a little bit of access to the local broadcast media, made a call to a popular radio station and aired my sentiments.
Let me just be clear on one thing:  I was not after any kind of fame or celebrity status nor did I intentionally made a spectacle of myself to get media mileage out of such a rotten situation.  No!  I went public simply to speak out in behalf of all my fellow GSIS members who have suffered enough insolence and shabby treatment dished out by a few, I repeat, a few bad tempered employees of the GSIS who needed to be given intensive seminars and trainings on how to deal with government workers with deference and respect.
After all, the hundreds of thousands of us government workers who are en masse required to become members of the GSIS are, in fact, their bread and butter, so to speak.  Without our mandatory contributions where will the GSIS get the funds to offer as loans to the same recipients?
Well, something good came out after all the brouhaha because soon after airing my side of the story, the radio station received a call from the GSIS and there ensued a lively verbal calisthenics based on rebuttals and reiterations.
When all the uproar had finally died down and the dust had settled, the radio station was flooded with phone calls from the listeners detailing their own "horror stories" about their own outrageous experiences dealing with the GSIS especially on their loan applications which I felt utterly vindicated my cause affirmed my stand.
To wrap this up, my personal plea is that the GSIS should field employees in their frontline services who are steeped in good manners, are courteous and respectful in their dealings with their clients because we are all decent people seeking out ways and means to better our lives and living conditions.
The bottom line is:  Had that particular employee just showed me even a little bit of courtesy; I would not have raised the roof that way.  Really.
