NAGA CITY- THE RAPE AND SLAYING of a 16 year-old lass in the remote barangay of San Pascual, Tinambac, Camarines Sur last Sept. 26 has remained unsolved with the confirmation that the arrest of a certain Jesus Pujo Olic, 46, in Canaman, Camarines Sur by a team of the Tinambac town PNP was unrelated to said crime.
Camarines Sur Police Office Spokesman SPO4 Romulo Pabiano cleared to newsmen September 28 that some local radio reporters have assumed that the arrest last Sept. 27 of Jesus Olic, who was issued a warrant of arrest from Judge Freddie Balonzo of RTC, Branch 63 in Calabanga town, was primarily related to the manhunt for the slay of the teenage girl.
Pabiano said the arrest of Olic was in fact due to two homicide cases not related to the recent rape-slay.
Tinambac Police Sr. Insp. Danilo Bagasina had confirmed over radio-broadcast that the heinous crime incident is still being investigated and local suspects who had perpetrated the gang-rape on the victim were being hunted by the police.
The rape and murder of the young girl, identified by the police as, "Honey" Nacion Berenuela, drew condemnation from concerned residents in this coastal town.
Berenuela had gone missing and was later found dead by his father at about 3:00 A.M. last September 26, just several meters away from their residence in barangay San Pascual, her clothing torn, her neck bore a slash wound, and her body had more than 10 stab wounds.
In the meantime, residents of Tinambac have called on Mayor Ruel Velarde to address the unabated proliferation of illegal drugs, high crime rate, and the alleged involvement of teenagers with local fraternities that often required violent initiations. (SONNY SALES)
