MANILA, Sept. 26, 2010-Jesuit run Ateneo de Naga University (AdNU) has elected a new leadership to run the premier university in the Bikol region.
Fr. Primitivo Viray, S.J., who was elected by the university's Board of Trustees last September 22, will succeed outgoing AdNU President, Fr. Joel E. Tabora, S.J.
In a letter announcing the appointment of Fr. Viray as the new AdNU president, Jesuit provincial Fr. Jose Magadia, SJ thanked Viray for generously accepting the responsibility of taking over the helm of the university.
Magadia also cited Tabora's accomplishments as university head for 11 years.
"In that time, AdNU has expanded in size and outreach. A new campus was added for the High School; home campus infrastructure was improved with various structures (including a new University Church and Jesuit Residence); and the University has taken on an increasingly significant role in social development and entrepreneurship in Bikol," Magadia said.
The Jesuit provincial also commended Tabora's exceptional qualities as an educator and a leader.
"Fr. Joel has also cultivated warm relations with the local Church, shown admirable initiative and leadership as an educator for Bikol, the nation and the Assistancy, and has remained active in political-social advocacy work.
Viray will take over the helm as AdNu president at the end of current academic year. (CBCPNews)
