Iriga City --- Even before flying off to Chicago to attend the First International Grand Alumni Homecoming last July, the UNEP community already extended its congratulations to Ms. Conchita Albino-Ibarondo, chosen by Metrobank Foundation as one of this year's Outstanding Teachers of the Philippines.
Atty. Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda, UNEP President, said the university took pride in her achievement being one of the university's alumnae who, up to now, continuous to give credence to the university's battle cry of promoting quality education.
"Her formative years took place within the four corners of this university. When she went out of the campus and decided to teach the children that needs her expertise, I know that she will carry with her UNEP's vision and mission wherever fate will lead her."
Metrobank Foundation, Metrobank Group's Corporate Social Responsibility arm spearheaded the Search in line with the company's vision to promote a culture of excellence among Filipinos thru the implementation of their programs in various communities in the country. For the past 26 years, the company continuously remained steadfast in its goal of promoting a sense of pride to the teaching profession and to the rest of the society.
Mrs. Conchita Albino-Ibarondo was among the eight public school teachers from the elementary and secondary levels together with two professors from UP-Diliman and De La Salle University cited for their exemplary performance as outstanding educators.
Ibarondo finished her secondary education at the University of Northeastern Philippines, then Mabini Memorial Colleges. She then took up BSEEd and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1970. In 1978 she pursued her Masteral Education in the same school and finished it in 1978. Not fairly contented with her studies, she enrolled again at UNEP and gained 45 units in EdD.
She is currently teaching Grade II pupils who belong to the lowest section, extending her dedication to non-readers and slow learners at San Antonio Elementary School in Iriga City.
Ibarondo was picked up from hundreds of nominees all over the country to join the roster of outstanding teachers for her untiring commitment to teach the students, specifically the slow learners. She doesn't only extend her time, but also give her utmost patience and understanding to reach out to her students.
Her dedication exemplified her goodness as a person, the value which she has also embodied even as a young and persistent student at the University of Northeastern Philippines.
Mrs. Ibarondo, together with other recipients will be conferred with a gold medallion on September 3, 2010 at Metrobank Plaza in Makati by no less than His Excellency President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino. Plaques of recognition and cash amounting to Php 30,000.00 will be given to each awardee during the formal awarding ceremonies.
Indeed, the University of Northeastern Philippines deserved every inch of its title as "Home of Global Achievers." (Lizel Macatangay)
