Naga City (20 Aug) -- The Archdiocese of Caceres will launch commemorative stamps to mark the 300 years of devotion of the Bikolanos to Our Lady of Penafrancia on September 11, 2010 at the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary, at 10 o'clock in the morning.
The Philippine Postal Corporation granted the issuance of commemorative stamps in four different designs, plus other philatelic products such as first day issue, souvenir sheets, souvenir folders and souvenir frames.
The Postmaster General Hector Villanueva and Most Rev. Leonardo Legaspi, OP, DD, shall grace the occasion.
The launching of the commemorative stamps is one of the major activities in observance of the tercentenary of the devotion in Naga City, introduced to the Bikolanos by a Spanish clergyman, Fr. Miguel Robles de Covarrubias.
A lecture on the history of the devotion shall be delivered by Prof. Danilo Gerona, a renowned local historian.
"Stamps are miniature works of art. These commemorative stamps will serve as 'evangelizers' to promote the devotion all throughout the world," says Fr. Wilmer Tria, Chair of the Committee on commemorative stamps.
These commemorative stamps and other philatelic products shall be available during the launching ceremonies and shall be exhibited and sold at Peñafrancia museum, the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary museum and the Bishop Gainza Trade Fair at SM Naga. For orders and more information, call 473-6445.
