Known for its commitment in promoting quality and excellent education, the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP) will once again prove its steadfast stand on providing available venues that would enhance its student's capability, particularly in terms of public discourse and writing.
This coming August 14, 2010, selected UNEP communication students and professors will once again join partakers coming from various universities in the Philippines in the 3rd International Center for Communication Studies (ICCS) Convention on Media Communication to be held at the UP Film Institute, University of the Philippines-Diliman, Quezon City.
Media practitioners coming from different news organizations were also invited to grace the said occasion. Seasoned lecturers coming from TIME Magazine, International Federation of Journalists, and speakers from the two giant TV networks here in the country, ABS-CBN and GMA-7 will also deliver their respective talks on the current state of media practice.
Spearheading the big event is the International Center for Communication Studies Manila (ICCS) who will be introducing the ICCS Award for Best Documentary Making. The said competition will showcase the skills, intelligence, and resourcefulness of the students in producing a documentary.
Atty. Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda, UNEP President, said that the convention will give UNEP students and attending mentors, the opportunity to mingle with respected media personalities and eventually learn something from their lectures.
"I believe that the best way to really train your students is to give them an opportunity to hear the best lecturers that we have in town, work with them and eventually be guided by them in perfecting their respective crafts."
Ms. Melody OrdoƱez, UNEP Media Relations Director who was one of the reactors during the 1st International Convention also spearheaded by ICCS Manila last year stated that their experience allowed their students to assess their own communication skills and eventually put a competitive edge against their colleagues.
Currently, ICCS Manila is known as the fastest growing training center for aspiring communication practitioners. It aims, among others "to provide a venue for the advancement and essential evaluation of communication practices in the fields of journalism, public relations, advertising and speech management." ICCS intends to be the focal point of communication excellence among practitioners of the communication profession. Lizel S. Macatangay
