UNEP Welcomes New USG Officers

Joining the rooster of the University of Northeastern Philippines ' (UNEP) University Student Government (USG) as its newest President is Cindy Marie Orbina of SIGAW, after garnering majority of the votes coming from her fellow UNEPians in a successful election inside the UNEP campus held over the weekend.

Orbina in her message to fellow students posed the challenge of setting her foot in continuing the good programs that her predecessor has accomplished. "It is a challenge that I will inherit a position which was handled by a woman like me.  Privilege is mine yet I know that I will have to work hard to realize what is expected of me."

Re elected USG Vice President was John Eric Candido.  Candido served as the council's VP last year and is a Orbina's party-mate. Joining him as re-electionists are Analyn Naldo and Junely Dimaiwat.  Both also won the same post as Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

Aside from the top positions inside the student government, other posts were also filled up.  Councilman or senators were also voted on to assist the student organization in plotting out necessary programs that would enhance and encourage student participation in various activities inside the university.

Elected as new members of the council were Ace Buena (Nursing Department), Manilyn Fonacier (CBED) , Maricel Guanzon (CBED)  and Mary Joy Oblino (CAS) .

Last year councilmen and senators who were re-elected to continue their tenure are Guyla Roche Aguirre from the Nursing Department, Rica Manaog (HRM) , Renier Ramirez ( Education) and Ma. Kathlina Sanglay (Criminology) .

The recently concluded election of UNEP-USG's set of officers is a manifestation of the university's strong adherence to further its vision as a truly democratic institution.

As student representatives, USG officers are expected to help in the formulation of school policies and programs.  It should be geared towards the promotion of student's interests in the promotion of quality education.  The USG, as a fundamental part of the university, should also promote student involvement and strengthen student participation in different facets of decision-making that concerns student's welfare.

UNEP President Atty. Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda, in a message sent from Illinois USA, congratulated the new set of officers.  "The students are the university's partners in formulating the policies that will raise, among others their own interest.  We want this partnership to work for us to establish a harmonious community where every sector's need is respectively being addressed."

Atty. Moraleda, together with Ms Del Alfelor-Tibi, UNEP's Executive Vice President and VP for Finance and other UNEP personnel are all off to Illinois, USA and is currently attending the 1st UNEP International Grand Alumni Homecoming at the Sheraton Gateway Suites, Chicago , Illinois .  The 3-day event started last July 30 and will have its culminating activity on August 1, 2010.
