DA Launches Animal Health Information System
Pili, Camarines Sur (24 June) -- The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) recently launched its developed Philippine Animal Health Information System (PhilAHIS), a national core reporting system for animal health.
This is to ensure proper flow of reports from the field to the local offices to the region and eventually to the BAI national office, the PhilAHIS was developed.
The Department of Agriculture Regulatory Division conducted series of trainings for the City/Municipal and Provincial Veterinarians, Municipal Agriculture Officers, Livestock Inspectors and Agricultural Technicians.
Experts from the Bureau of Animal Industry national office were invited to discuss various topics during the training. Dr. Emerson Tapdasan of BAI-AHD discussed the Philippine Animal Health Information System; Dr. May Magno also of BAI-AHD discussed the Phil-AHIS reporting system.
According to the DA, animal health monitoring and reporting is crucial in achieving increased productivity in the livestock and poultry sector.
Aside from orienting the field officers on PhilAHIS reporting system and how to use and properly fill out standardized forms, the training also aimed to ensure continuing education of field officers on animal disease recognition, animal disease control and prevention and disease-outbreak management and disease reporting.
In the meantime, series of capability building activities for the different provinces were already conducted: for Catanduanes -June 9-10; for Camarines Sur - June 15-16; for Camarines Norte - June 17-18; for Albay - June 22-23; Sorsogon - June 24-25; and training for Masbate will be on July 14-15.
