Bongat Launches Naga SMILES

City of Naga - Mayor John G. Bongat launched Naga's latest promotion campaign on his first day of work as the eighth chief executive of the city.

The city mayor presented the "Naga SMILES to the World" promotions campaign to members of the media on the morning of July 1, his first official day in office.

According to Bongat, Naga SMILES is designed to promote the city as a education, tourism, and economic hub. It is also expected to draw in people who want to live in Naga. SMILES stands for "See Naga," "Meet in Naga," "Invest in Naga," "Live in Naga," "Experience Naga," and "Study in Naga."

The chief executive explained that "See Naga" pertains to tourism that is expected to transform the city into a major destination and not just a jump-off point. "Meet in Naga," on the other hand, refers to Naga becoming the country's "Convention City" because of modern function halls and convention centers as well as the nearly-completed Metro Naga Coliseum which could accommodate up to 10,000 people.

"Invest in Naga" is geared towards attracting investors to the city and help create job opportunities for Metro Naga's workforce. "Live in Naga" refers to Naga as one of the most liveable cities in Asia and banks on the city's environs as a perfect place to raise families.

"Experience Naga," on the other hand, refers to the city government's best practices and innovative policies on transparency, accountability, and good governance. Finally, "Study in Naga" presents Naga as a "University City" and a major education center in the country.

Bongat also tasked Huberto Ursua, head of the i-Governance team, to perform the overhaul of the official city website and incorporate the thrusts of the new promotions program.
