UNEP Registrar Represents UNEP in Federation Confab
Close to a thousand participants coming from various universities and schools in the country gathered for the Federation of School Registrars Association's (FOSRA) 12th General Assembly held a few weeks back at the Medicine Auditorium, University of Santo Tomas, Manila .
Under this year's theme "Quality service for Quality Education," the two-day conference served as a venue for an exchange of learning and invaluable experiences amongst its attendees. The conference served a vital tool for school registrars who basically, are the source of pertinent information, long after its students are gone.
A school registrar maintains and coordinates clerical and academic records starting from the student's enrolment until the latter's stay in the university. The student's data base kept by the registrar must be accurate and therefore needs careful encoding for record purposes.
One of the highlights of the gathering was the discussion delivered by Ms. Maria Humildad F. Claro, University of Asia and the Pacific Registrar, where she tackled Quality Service at the Registrar's Office.
Updates and highlights of the 2008 Manual for Private Higher Education were also thoroughly discussed by Atty. Julito D. Vitriolo, CHED's Executive Director IV.
On the second day, the confab's participants were given an overview on Professional Regulation Commission's reminders and requisites, delivered by no less than Hon. Nilo L.Rosas, PRC Associate Commissioner.
Before the afternoon session ended, the participants actively participated in the discussion of current issues and concerns surrounding the registrar's obligations and what they can do to enhance their professionalism and improve their quality of work.
Ms. Theresa Alfelor-Cabanes, UNEP Registrar was among the ten (10) participants from the Bikol Region who attended the Registrar's confab. She said that the experience was indeed worthwhile.
"New fields of learning should really be explored by school personnel like us. It gives us a chance to improve our craft and enhance other areas of learning that we can also share with our students and with our community. I am happy that the UNEP management, under our President, Atty. Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda is very supportive of endeavors like this."
Atty. Moraleda, UNEP's young prexy stated that any event that would boost their faculty's skills is on top of the management's priority list.
"We grab opportunities like this since I know that these are the things that we need to continuously update ourselves on what is happening in the academic forefront. The assembly exhibited FOSRA's commitment in enhancing the sense of professionalism within their rank and it's a welcome development for all of us in the academe." (Lizel S. Macatangay)
