Masbate Priest Dies in Motorcycle Mishap

LEGASPI City, Dec. 10, 2009- The transfer of Masbate Bishop Joel Z. Baylon to the Diocese of Legazpi brought sadness to his parishioners. But the diocesan clergy suffered another blow when one of its priests died December 8 in a motorcycle accident along the National Highway at Barangay Cayabon, Milagros, Masbate.

The fatality was identified as Fr. Norman Crisostomo De Jesus, popularly known as "Father Aga," 38 years old and pioneer parish priest of a newly-created parish in Calumpang, Balud, Masbate.

The victim was reportedly on his way to Masbate to concelebrate with Bishop Baylon in his farewell Mass at the Masbate Cathedral.

Police reports reaching Camp General Simeon Ola, this city disclosed De Jesus was driving his 125 TD Yamaha motorcycle when he bumped Rodolfo Aropo Alto, a 34-year old laborer.

Investigations disclosed Fr. De Jesus fell from his motorcycle. Local residents brought the priest to Dobongco Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, Rodolfo Alto was rushed to Masbate Provincial Hospital for treatment.

Bishop Baylon presided over the concelebrated Mass for "Fr. Aga" at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, his last official act in the Diocese of Masbate. (Melo M. Acuna)
