NAGA CITY (Nov. 22) – Atty. Maico Julia, head of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Naga Field Office, said today that as stated in Comelec Resolution No. 8300, public school teachers who served as members of the Board of Election Tellers during the Oct. 29 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections are entitled to receive the amount provided for by the resolution.

Senate hearing set on Naga’s peace & order crisis

NAGA CITY (Nov. 10) – As local government officials and representatives of different sectors have expressed disappointment over the worsening peace and order situation in the city, the Senate is set to hold a hearing on this matter. City Mayor Jesse M. Robredo disclosed that Sen. Noynoy Aquino has called for a senate hearing into the city's worsening peace and order situation. The hearing, which is scheduled for this coming Tuesday (13 November), is the only official response of the national government to the open letter.

Naga SP approves reward for witness in Jollibee robbery

Naga City – A reward of P100,000 is waiting to any witness who can provide positive identification of suspects in the robbery-hold up incident last week at a Jollibee restaurant here. The Naga City Sangguniang Panlungsod approved in its regular session the allocation of the said amount in order to effect the immediate arrest of suspects.

I dread the day that I shall be forced to write my masters thesis. And now that day is finally at hand. After the long hiatus when I had fulfilled all academic requirements and hurdled the comprehensive examinations, I could no longer escape the dreaded last sacrifice in order to claim a graduate degree.

The bridge was called “Colgante,” which in Spanish means “hanging.” It was a suspension bridge. It linked the two disparate neighborhoods of the city: one poor and in the 70s still rural and another elite. Dayangdang was this other side, quarters to the calesas that plied selected routes in the city; the other side had and still has the Archbishop’s Palace, the convent and school of the Daughters of Charity and old houses scented by old money and older politics.

Manila, 07 August 2007 – Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Hermogenes Esperon’s order to create five courts martial to try soldiers accused of human rights violations drew mixed reactions from Catholic church leaders. In a press conference at Camp Aguinaldo Tuesday, Esperon said these courts martial will begin working tomorrow and try soldiers facing charges in civilian courts.

I AM angry that I am writing in English this time. “Underground bishop” of Zhengding arrested anew

Rome (AsiaNews) – The underground bishop of Zhengding (Hebei), Msgr. Giulio Jia Zhiguo, was arrested by police last June 5th. This is the ninth time that the prelate has been arrested since 2004. The episode was reported by the American Kung Foundation, as association which fights for religious freedom in China.

A study released by the School of Dental Medicine of the State University of New York under the Journal of Periodontology (gum diseases) has demonstrated that calcium-rich foods may also help in preventing tooth loss that occurs in aging.
