The ethics of homosexuality

ONE OF MY STUDENTS in ethics commented that being gay is the feeling of being different from others. It was a surprise to get that kind of answer because others simply hate gays for being freaks or deviants. What should be an ethically correct attitude or response toward homosexuality? There is a need to make an important distinction between homosexual orientation and homosexual activity. Homosexual orientation is an attraction that a person experiences towards members of the same sex. Homosexual activity is the actual physical engagement in sexual acts with members of the same sex. With this distinction in mind, let us take a close look at the four schools of thought or perspectives on homosexuality.

GSIS brouhaha

It took a lot of discernment before I finally decided to lie out my sentiments and write something about an ugly incident that happened to me at GSIS during a routine government transaction. Much as I wanted to bury the ruckus under the list of "experiences," I felt that I needed to say my piece here to finally attain my peace.

A cruel moveable feast

It was a Saturday. I am not now sure if it was the 21st of September or the 20th. Through the sheer machinations of the dictator, the documents were ill-dated, post-dated like a bad check. It was a carte blanche, a blank check that would allow those who found themselves suddenly in power to write off debts through repressed memory; or to cause some to be indebted in jail.

Reckoning with Truth

Much has been said and will be said about Hello Garci. However, the truth does not lie on the tapes anymore, but on the president herself. If we recall, she herself publicly admitted on television to a phone conversation with a “Comelec official.” If she wasn’t hiding anything, then there surely was no reason not to name this person at the very least.

Legaspi tells people - Mass is not for propaganda

Caceres Archbishop Leonardo Z. Legaspi, O.P., D.D. says in his homily during the Chrism Mass on March 20, Holy Thursday, at the Naga Cathedral that “truth is not defined by political interests and their anointed messengers. All political truth is partial and tainted; only the truth of Christ is pure and whole – and the truth of Christ cannot be grasped by those who manipulate His Church and instrumentalize the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, reducing it to the level of a political tool for political ends and propaganda.”
