MANILA, Philippines (May 22 2012) - At the end of today's session of the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato, he ended up slouched in a wheel chair, neck-tie loosened and overcoat removed - an image of defeat if not a broken man - while receiving a scolding from presiding judge Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile.

Archbishop believes Corona shall tell the truth

MANILA, May 21, 2012— A Catholic bishop called on the senators to treat Chief Justice Renato Corona with respect when he testified at his own impeachment trial.

Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles said Corona is still innocent until proven guilty and that the senator-judges can get the truth and be respectful of the chief justice at the same time.

“I wish him well and I hope and pray that he will not be disrespected by his fellow civil servants,” Arguelles said. “He should be respected by his position.”

Bishops push smoking ban in church premises

MANILA, May 21, 2012— Three Catholic bishops have given their support to the anti-tobacco campaign and considering banning smoking within church premises in their dioceses.

Bishops Arturo Bastes of Sorsogon, Jose Oliveros of Malolos, and Honesto Ongtioco of Cubao said they are concerned about the secondhand smoke and its effect on children.

“I am absolutely in favor to ban smoking even at the church premises, plaza, compound or patio. Smoking inside (the Church) is already banned,” said Bastes.

In the corporate world or private business, when your boss makes a follow-up on your assigned task, you would be under extreme pressure to deliver. "Walang tulugan." (No sleeping until mission accomplished.) Or else, your performance evaluation and salary increase could be badly affected. Your future promotion could be in jeopardy, too. Any follow-up is in fact dreaded since it indicates delay, neglect, weakness, or outright failure on the job.

Moreover, you can't tell your boss that follow-ups are prohibited. Try that and you'll surely get fired.

Legazpi police alarmed over dumping of fetuses

LEGAZPI CITY – An officer of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Women and Children’s desk who requested anonymity expressed alarm over the growing frequency of dumping of fetuses in different parts of this city, as another fetus wrapped in a plastic bag found near the seawall in barangay Rawis last Wed. (May 16) was added to the growing list.

The policewoman said “there were four fetuses found dumped in various places in Legazpi City last year.”

4Ps beneficiaries smell anomaly in unexplained benefits reduction

LAGONOY, CAMARINES SUR (May 18, 2012) – During a village assembly here on Thurs. (May 17), over 200 “Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program” (4Ps) beneficiaries in barangay Burabod in this town have questioned the local Social Welfare municipal office over the reduction in their “conditional cash transfer” benefits by almost 60%, which they alleged to be anomalous.
