Lupi mayor comatose after close-range shooting

NAGA CITY (Oct 27, 2012) - Mayor Raul Matamorosa of Lupi, Camarines Sur is now fighting for his life at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Naga City after being shot in the head by still unidentified gunman.

At past 3 PM today Mayor Matamorosa had his television set fixed at the Sony Service Center at diversion road, Naga City, and was already inside his car when approached by a male assailant who shot him at close range at the back of his head closer to the left parietal area.

CALABANGA, CAMARINES SUR (Oct 25, 2012) - Alarmed over reports of newly reforested mangroves being infested with undetermined species of worms that feed on vegetation, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, (DENR) sent a mangroves expert to inspect some 5-hectares of mangroves in the coastline of barangay Cagsao in this municipality.

SORSOGON CITY (Oct 25, 2012) – Operatives of the Philippines Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) filed charges of violation of RA 9165, or the amended “Anti-Illegal Drugs Law” against a 61 year-old media practitioner in the island province of Masbate who was nabbed in an entrapment operation in Pilar, Sorsogon.

MANILA, Oct. 24, 2012— Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle as the Catholic Church’s newest cardinal. The pontiff elevated Tagle, head of the Philippines’ largest archdiocese, to the College of Cardinals along with 5 other archbishops from different countries.

No help from PNR for train suicides

NAGA CITY (Oct 24, 2012) – The Philippine National Railways (PNR) shall not give assistance to persons who commit suicide by train.

“We are not tolerating the acts of desperate people who commit suicidal acts on railroad tracks and later the family would ask for burial assistance from the PNR,” said Constancio Toledano Jr. who is Division manager of the PNR Transportation Department covering tracks from Legazpi City to Tagkawayan, Quezon.

P-Noy's wheelchair joke not funny for Arroyo camp

MANILA, Philippines - A spokesman for Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo slammed yesterday President Aquino for making fun of her life-threatening condition.

Lawyer Raul Lambino was reacting to the President’s joke before members of the Filipino community during a state visit in Auckland, New Zealand.

Aquino supposedly said, “Our countrymen who are corrupt in the Philippines have luxurious, expensive and fast cars. But if they want to escape (prosecution), they use a wheelchair.”
