NAGA CITY (Oct 27, 2012) - Mayor Raul Matamorosa of Lupi, Camarines Sur is now fighting for his life at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Naga City after being shot in the head by still unidentified gunman.
At past 3 PM today Mayor Matamorosa had his television set fixed at the Sony Service Center at diversion road, Naga City, and was already inside his car when approached by a male assailant who shot him at close range at the back of his head closer to the left parietal area.
Subsequent update revealed that the bullet from a gun of unknown caliber exited at the mayor's forehead.
According to witnesses, the unidentified gunman fled on foot and it was not clear if he had backup companions.
The mayor was rushed to the nearby Mother Seton Hospital and and went through cardio-pulmonary resuscitation at the emergency room before undergoing an emergency operation, said his brother, Bobby, when interviewed by Myra Revilla of Bombo Radyo.
The mayor is comatose and is now in the intensive care unit, according to latest update reports.
Authorities have not established if the shooting of the mayor is election related.
Matamorosa is serving out his last term as the municipal mayor of Lupi, Camarines Sur and has officially endorsed his brother, Bobby, as his mayoral bet this coming 2013 elections. He had taken oath as a member of the Liberal Party before the late Sec. Jesse Robredo earlier this year.
