CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur (Feb 25, 2012) - Four people lay dead in a clash between Army soldiers and a band of NPA rebels in a hinterland village of Camarines Norte early afternoon today.

Lt Col Epimaco Macalisang, the Commanding Officer of the 49th Infantry Battalion, said that he sent a platoon of his unit after receiving a 'hot information' regarding the extortion activity of the rebels in Malaya village, Labo town.

MANILA, Feb. 23, 2012— A Catholic bishop advised students not to join fraternities and sororities especially those with dangerous initiations.

Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez of Caloocan said the recent death of San Beda law student Marvin Reglos from an alleged hazing incident showed risks in joining fraternities.

He acknowledged that maybe not all initiations are dangerous, but stressed that enough have already been publicized to let the public know many are not safe.

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City (Feb 16, 2012) – Having less in life does not make a person greedy especially in times of disaster. This attribute was shown by two low-ranking Army soldiers during the search and retrieval operations in the earthquake-shaken community in La Libertad, Negros Oriental.

Privates Danny Faigane and Marlon Vera were members of the disaster response team which was immediately deployed in that town, following the 6.9 magnitude earthquake which pummelled the village of Salonggon on February 6.

On February 13 at around 10:00am, the two soldiers were removing dirt and mud from an upper level of a house when they unearthed a metal box containing P70, 000.00. They also found another bundle of cash amounting to P20,000 in the same vicinity.

CAMALIGAN, Camarines Sur (Jan 10, 2012) – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and police intelligence personnel are looking into the claims of illegal drug trade in the capital town of Pili and the Provincial Capitol compound by a confessed illegal drug courier who was rescued by the local police in this town during the weekend.

In a confession-affidavit, Saidemen Pao Devonsah, 21, a native of Iligan City and a temporary resident of Latex, Cubao, Quezon City, admitted that he is an illegal drug courier transporting shabu from Metro Manila to a client in the capital town of Pili, Camarines Sur.

MANILA, Dec. 12, 2011— The job as new head of Manila’s Catholic Church started Monday for Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle who turned emotional as the crowd praised him for his appointment.

“We are grateful to the Holy Father for giving Manila the best in our own,” said Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.

NAGA CITY (Dec 10, 2011) – The Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 21 ordered this week the detention of three residents of the port town of Pasacao, Camarines Sur at the Tinangis Provincil Jail in Pili on charges of Illegal Possession of Firearms and Ammunition under Republic Act 8294

 A joint police-army team conducted an entrapment operation in Barangay Sta. Rosa Del Norte in the said town and recovered high-powered firearms and large quantity of ammunitions in possession of the suspects.

MANILA, Philippines - It was a moonless and starless Saturday night but it was all dazzling and bright at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadim as the Los Angeles Galaxy battled the Philippine Azkals.

The final scoreline was Galaxy: 6, Azkals: 1. But that hardly mattered to some 9,000 spectators as they got to see English superstar David Beckham dazzle with nifty moves for a good 75 minutes.

The unidentified Filipino in death row is said to be scheduled for execution on December 8, in an undisclosed place and time. The said OFW [overseas Filipino worker] was allegedly caught with more than 4 kilos of heroin and was sentenced to death by the Supreme Court of China. However, news reports said, the Filipino is still unaware that his life would be taken away on December 8.

Juan Manuel Marquez fumed claiming he was robbed yet again after the 3 judges rules in favor of reigning WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. Immediately post-fight the controversial decision was the talk in the Web. CNN promptly proclaimed that Marquez was not robbed of victory and ESPN who scored the match a 114-114 draw concurred much later...

LAS VEGAS – Juan Manuel Marquez, the boxer who claims he had twice beaten Manny Pacquiao,  was probably holed up in his suite at the MGM Grand when fans of the Filipino champion made a lot of noise downstairs, welcoming the Filipino icon at the hotel lobby Tuesday noon.

Hundreds of Pacquiao fans, a bunch of them waving a Philippine flag with the words “Pacquiao for President” on it, chanted “Man-ny! Man-ny!” as the boxer walked in and inched his way through the crowd...

The so-called "personhood" initiative was rejected by more than 55 percent of voters, falling far short of the threshold needed for it to be enacted. Eleven-year-old Farrel Eldrian Wu, a Grade 6 student of MGC New Life Christian Academy in Taguig City, won a gold medal and ranked first in the primary division individual contests...

Several sensational cases of murders were recorded by the police in October this year...

MANILA, Philippines (Nov. 5, 2011) - The police is set to investigate Ramona Bautista's statements in her involvement in the murder of her brother, Ram Revilla (real name Ramgen Bautista), including her initial claims of being kidnapped by the killers and her subsequent change in narratives.

In her initial statement to the police few hours after the murder, Ramona said that Ram's attackers dragged her into a waiting van and left her near a mall in Las Piñas. But in a more recent interview with ANC’s Dateline Philippines she admitted lying to the police about being abducted because she was ashamed about leaving Ram and and his wounded girlfriend, Janelle Manahan, who survived the attack...
