LEGAZPI CITY (July 28, 2011 6:30 A.M.) – All storm signals lifted, flood waters receding and Typhoon Juaning leaving the country, Bikolanos now have time to take stocks and realize that the Bikol region bore the brunt of unexpected massive rains and strong winds brought by Typhoon Juaning.

Projection models show that Juaning merely skirted Bikol and in fact Juaning passed East of the region as a Tropical Depression and Albay was under Signal No. 1 when most of the damages to the province were taking place.

MANILA, Philippines (June 8 2011) - After getting neglected for more than 3 decades, Bicol Express fully resumes plying the Bicol-Manila railway route starting June 29 this year.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda issued a press release today confirming what Philippine National Railway (PNR) manager Junio “Jun” Ragrario announced two weeks ago - that regular train trips from Manila to Naga City shall roll again starting on June 29, one month ahead of schedule.

SORSOGON CITY (Oct. 21, 2011) - Outspoken Sorsogon bishop, Arturo Bastes told local news group “Media Solutions” how Iron ore mining is slowly destroying the environment in Matnog, Sorsogon, as he also opposed  a planned geothermal exploration around Bulusan
volcano that poses risks to communities.

BULA, Camarines Sur (Sep 16, 2011) - The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) made a payout of P2.5 million to more than 300 farmers who suffered crop losses due to flood caused by Typhoon Juaning.

BULA, Camarines Sur (Sep 16, 2011) - The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) made a payout of P2.5 million to more than 300 farmers who suffered crop losses due to flood caused by Typhoon Juaning.

According to Gerry Obias, spokesman of PCIC Regional Office based in Legazpi City, a total of 312 farmers in the Rinconada district, including 75 farmers in the town of Bula and 35 farmers in Bato, are the beneficiaries of the said insurance payout. The farmer beneficiaries suffered losses in a combined area of 500.1 hectares.

LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 23 (PIA) -- The Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Council (PDRRMC) remains on heightened alert since Sunday this week in the wake of tropical depression Mina expected to bring widespread rains that may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

Albay Gov. Joey Salceda, also chair of the PDRRMC, on Monday had already issued advisory putting the province under alert status and directing all three cities and 15 towns on 24-hour watch and be ready to carry out flood and landslide evacuation plans.

The convention forms part of the sector's regular assembly and campaign to promote responsible mining and sustainable development.

The activity started Wednesday, July 13, with sports competition like bowling, lawn and table tennis and golf.
