Guns, explosives seized in Masbate

CAMP GEN. SIMEON OLA, LEGAZPI CITY (Sep 18, 2011) – After a firefight with the rebel, Philippine Army soldiers seized from communist rebels high-powered firearms, improvised explosive, wirings and detonating devices in sitio Padirao, barangay Quintina, San Pascual, Masbate on Friday (Sept. 16).

In a report relayed by the Police National Office (PNP) regional office to Camp Ola, a team of the 9th Infantry Battalion, PA based in the said province, led by First Lt. Alan P. Sillacay recovered from rebels. 1,30 Cal. Machinegun; 2,M-16 rifles; 3,Cal 38 revolvers; 3 piece of improvised explosive devices (IED) including electrical wirings used for detonation and assorted subversive documents in bag packs.

An unidentified rebel was killed during the firefight.

Earlier Thursday afternoon (Sept. 15), 4 army soldiers under the 902nd Brigade were hurt in an ambush at the boundary villages of Daguit and Malangcao, Labo, Cam. Norte. The soldiers led by 2nd Lt. Magorawere were on board an army KM450 truck on their way to 902nd Brigade headquarters when ambushed by New People's Army rebels.

The wounded soldiers were rushed to the Camarines Norte Provincial Hospital and treated for non-fatal wounds. (SONNY SALES)
