  • MANILA, June 11, 2009-The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) has formally declared its opposition to the Constituent Assembly (Con-Ass) and the changing of the Charter before the 2010 elections.

  • MANILA, June 12, 2009-The Parish Pastoral Council For Responsible Voting (PPCRV) and the National Citizens' Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) have articulated their concern over the controversial Constituent Assembly (Con-Ass).
  • CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY --The leader of the Sumilao Farmers, who walked 1,700 kilometers from Bukidnon to Manila in 2007, was shot dead before midnight Friday. Ka Rene Penas, 51, a barangay kagawad of San Vicente, Sumilao, Bukidnon, was on a motorcycle with two other farmers on their way home when they were shot by still unknown assailants.

    Ka Rene was hit in the left chest while his companions identified as Eliezer Peñas and Samson Dollete were also injured in the shooting. Police reports said that Ka Rene tried to crawl away from the ambush but was shot again.

  • MANILA, June 5 - Filipinos in the United States have so far led this year's overseas registration for the 2010 national elections with a total 15,728 registrants, its biggest chunk of 5,827 enlisting with the Los Angeles consulate-general.

    The over-all total from four world regions and two Metro Manila-based centers is 93,310. Despite the U.S. lead by country, the Asia-Pacific is the over-all regional leader with 25,640 Filipinos in the region registering.

  • MANILA, June 5 (PNA) - Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri on Friday lauded the Senate and the House of Representatives for passing the Home Development Mutual Fund Law of 2009, also known as the Pag-IBIG Fund Law.

    Zubiri said Congress' approval of the new law on Pag-IBIG Fund will "help over 1.5 million Filipinos who are renting houses to better plan for their housing needs."

  • MANILA, June 5, 2009-Spiritual preparations have started for the upcoming Taize "Pilgrimage of Trust", an international meeting for the youth organized by the Taize Brothers set to happen early next year in Manila

    Brothers from Taize are organizing prayers and meetings in various dioceses to prepare young people for the upcoming religious event from February 3-7, 2010.

    The spiritual preparation aims to bring the youth to greater awareness of the importance of the upcoming event.

  • NAGA CITY, June 3 (PNA) --- A regional political party known as Ako Bicol is vying in the forthcoming party-list elections in May 2010.

    Ako Bicol officials were even optimistic that Bicolano voters would support and vote for the homegrown political group.

    Arthur Monares, president of Ako Bicol, said the group would primarily focus on laws that improve the livelihood, education and health of Bicolanos and non-Bicolanos alike.

    Monares said that Ako Bicol was counting on the votes of the more than 2.5 million registered Bicolano voters.

  • MANILA, June 5, 2009- Catholic bishops are calling on the people to go to the streets to denounce Charter change via constituent assembly (Con-ass).

    Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo said the people should air their sentiments against the planned mode for Constitutional amendments before it's too late.

  • NAGA CITY—The only Jesuit learning institution in Bikol region is also the first among all other schools and universities in the country to have institutional accreditation from Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).

    Ateneo de Naga University (AdNU) beat all the major Manila-based universities to the accreditation.

  • MANILA, May 29, 2009- The Church hierarchy's row with the city officials here intensified after a bishop warned to question before the court the legality of the continued operation of the Pandacan oil depot.

    Manila Auxiliary Bishop Bernardino Cortez threatened of a "legal battle" in order to protect the health, security and environment of the residents in a crowded district in the city.
