  • BPI APPROVES 60M FOR THE MODERNIZATION OF CORBOX CORP. The Bank of the Philippine Islands through its Sustainable Energy Finance (SEF) Program, a partnership between BPI and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) recently approved a P60 million loan for the modernization and upgrade of Corbox Corp. facilities in Cagayan de Oro City.

  • MANILA, August 20, 2009- Amidst plans to revive the peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, a Catholic bishop asked the government peace panel to avoid the same mistake it did in the past.

    According to Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez, the government must take into consideration last year's Supreme Court decision on the Memorandum of Agreement on ancestral domain (MOA-AD), which it ruled as being "unconstitutional".

  • MANILA - Followers of El Shaddai Catholic Charismatic movement are divided on whether or not to support the presidential bid of their leader, Bro. Mike Velarde.

    Velarde admitted that his 2010 political plans is one issue that somehow rocks the unity of his followers due to their varied perceptions about him leaving the pulpit to politics.

    The situation in a way, he said, made him dilly-dally whether to pursue or not his "childhood dream" to become a president.

  • MANILA, August 13, 2009-Even a Catholic bishop cried foul over President Arroyo's order to demolish the "Grand Mosque" in Pasay City.

    Archbishop Oscar Cruz, former president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, describe the move as a ticking-bomb ready to explode right in front of Malacañang.

    Cruz said destroying the mosque and replacing it with commercial establishments and casinos only proves the government's greed for money and power.

  • MANILA, August 11, 2009-A Catholic bishop said it's high time for people to show their disgust over the series of scandals committed by the Arroyo administration.

    Novaliches Bishop-Emeritus Teodoro Bacani said President Arroyo and her party's reported lavish dinner in New York is another thing that requires a lot of explaining from Malacañang.

    With Malacañang claiming there was nothing wrong in dining with a posh restaurant, Bacani called on the people to make known their sentiments on the incident.

  • NAGA CITY- A welcome competitor put 'padyak' (pedicab) drivers in Naga City on a day-off last August 15.

    Along with four kids and a city councilor, Senator Manuel "Mar" Roxas drove a pedicab through the streets of downtown Naga, to the surprise and delight of curious onlookers, some of which exclaimed, "Nagpapadyak talaga si Kuya Mar! (Kuya Mar really knows how to drive pedicab!)

  • LEGAZPI CITY, Albay, Aug. 13 -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo directed the Department of Public Works and Highways today to expedite the completion of the Presentacion-Caramoan coastal road in Camarines Sur.

    The Chief Executive, who was scheduled to visit Caramoan, deferred the road inspection due to inclement weather. She instead proceeded to her scheduled visit to this city to inaugurate the re-opening of the tolling facilities of Legaspi Oil Company in Barangay Arimbay.

  • BOTOLAN, Zambales, Aug. 7  -- More than 1,000 families were affected as 10 barangays in this town went under water after a protected dike here collapsed due to heavy rains brought by typhoon "Kiko" late Thursday

    Botolan Mayor Roger Yap said the protected dike along Bucao River overflowed and collapsed, diverting the flood water from the river to Barangay Carael and then to nine more nearby barangays.

  • MANILA, August 5, 2009- Thousands of Filipinos from all walks of life joined the Catholic Church to bid farewell to a woman described by Pope Benedict XVI as a "woman of deep and unwavering faith."

    Mourners lined the streets around the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception as political and business leaders, students and thousands of others heard the funeral rites for former president Corazon Aquino.

    Mrs Aquino died at age of 76 on August 1 after from cardio-respiratory arrest due to complications of colon cancer.

    Funeral rites for the country's "icon of democracy" started 9 a.m. on August 5, with Balanga Bishop Socrates Villegas welcoming the congregation.
